to delete a single message, we must touch and hold the message and then tap the trash icon. This function stops working. I pull the battery and it works fine for about an hour then stops. The only way to delete an email is to open it. Is there a solution other than the battery pull?

Strange for sure. What OS version are you running?

If you're on 10.2.1 xxxx all you have to do is swipe from right edge, tap Select More and tap as many emails as you want then tap the trash icon. Doesn't matter if they're read or unread. Works for anything you see listed in the Hub.
