There is a WI-FI direct option on 10.2.1. When you choose a file and click the three buttons on your right, there is a "Share" option (click on it, then). Almost at the end there is the WI-FI direct option. Never tested it though, but I hope I helped you.

My personal experience with WiFi direct between Android and BlackBerry is that it just doesn't work. You should try, though.

Of course, there is no universal protocol to share files in the Wi-Fi stack. This service must be implemented on top of it, with a proprietary protocol like BlackBerry or Android did.

Wi-Fi Direct only links your phone together. If you want to share files this way between different platforms, you will have to use something like a FTP/HTTP protocol for example (If you find an app than can be a FTP/HTTP server on one of this phone, the other can use the browser to access it...), or even a network drive protocol (SMBs like Samba).

Where as, in the bluetooth stack, you will find an universal protocol to share files, compatible between platforms, ready to use.

I have a Nexus 7 tablet that has NFC. Not sure if the 5 has NFC also, but I just tap my Q10 to my Nexus 7 and share files that way.

Is the file on a cloud service? All of my files are attached to Dropbox so that I can access from any device very simple.
