I just received two new Q10 and I took a real close look at both of them. Here are my findings:

One has a build date from end of 2013 the other has early 2014. The one from 2014 comes in a smaller more compact box.

The newer one has a bad fitting battery door and a squeaky spacebar. The display also has a little more yellow tint to it. All the other keys are good on it.

The one from 2013 has no problems with the backdoor and the spacebar is good. Although both devices have good even keyboard backlighting there is one huge difference. The 2013 version backlight is way more yellow compared to the 2014. If you have no other device to compare it too you'll probably get used to it. But the difference is quite astonishing.

Now compared to my original device built early 2013 both newer ones are overall better. The keys seem firmer and more quiet. They also changed the font thickness on they keyboard at one point because the early 2013 version has thicker letters on the keyboard.

yeah pictures would be good, although I'm not sure if having more yellow shade is a good thing or a bad thing. (my Q10 was probably one of the first versions that came out)

There is control, but it is in a range of acceptable specs. They don't make each phone 1 by 1, like a Rolls Royce. Many different suppliers will often make the same parts. There is a range for each part that is acceptable. The battery door is a good example. Say the door has to be within 2mm of spec (just to keep things simple). The body also has an acceptable range. Most of these parts will match up with no noticeable difference, but if you get a body at the higher end and a door at the lower end of the acceptable range, then it might be more noticeable. Same goes for the other components.

Mine's an original that I bought on launch day in May 2013, and my screen is very yellow. It's especially noticeable when I put it beside my Z10. It's to be expected with the amoled display, but that's interesting that newer productions are less yellow. That would definitely be a welcomed change.

As for battery door, mine's very loose. I bought another door which made no difference. So either the replacement is crap too, or the slots it slides into are loose.

Added some pictures. The yellow tinted keyboard lighting is hard to capture. The left one has the less yellowish screen but the more yellowish keyboard. Both packages say made in Mexico 5.

Ive got 2 Q10, too. And have to check them out.

The Keyboard is different(the Layout) and the screen is brighter.

My Q10 shows 110513 so I'm going to say that the format is ddmmyy, seeing as I got the phone end of may 2013 (5th November would therefore have been impossible)
