In the CB10 app for CrackBerry for example you can hit Alt+P on the forums mainpage to check participated topics or Alt+M on the frontpage to mark everything read.

Updating to the latest software OS is easy to do, but may take some time, so it's best not to be in a hurry. First, go to your device's Settings menu. You can get there by going to the first page of app icons, swiping down from the top edge of the screen to get to the quick settings menu, and then tapping the "settings" button to get to the system settings menu.
After you tap the settings button to get to the System Settings menu, scroll down to the "Software Update" button and press it. Follow directions there to update to the latest version of the OS!
