I just now wanted to find an address that was texted to me a few weeks ago. But when I look, I have all of yesterday's texts with none of the ones between Tuesday Aug7 all the way back to May27! The thread is complete going back from that date.

Has anyone seen this before? Better still, know how to fix it?

AFAIK just one contact. I didn't check every thread but a cursory peek didn't see any other threads with missing chunks like this one.

If it's just one contact, then you most likely deleted the texts accidentally without noticing.

If it was texts from multiple people, then there would be concern.

Well, I guess that now there's concern? I just wanted a phone number my kid texted to me on Sunday (4 days ago). But the thread is missing the texts from JUST part of the day! I have ones sent before 12:30 that day, and then I'm missing about 5 texts sent or replied to in the hour after that. The thread is complete again after 13:35. More inconvenient is that I know they were still there on Wednesday because I looked up the number that day.

I always thought it was all or nothing when it came to stored files? How can my Q10 randomly lose just a few?

OK, now it's worse! I just tried to look for a text sent to me last week, only to discover that now NONE of the texts in the thread exist prior to two days ago!! What in the bleep is happening to my Q10?

The thread is one texting with one of my kids, so I actually wanted to keep it, there's zero chance of my having deleted it and now several pictures and quotes sent to me are gone.

Yes I can ask for specific texts to be re-sent but I can't have this keep happening! At this rate I'd need to somehow save texts daily, but worse is that there doesn't seem to be any way to restore any if I managed to find a viable method of saving texts in the 1st place!

I have the SMSbackup app from BlackBerry world but have been unable to get it to restore any texts. Plus I would still lose over a week from when I did the 20 minutes backup to 3 days ago. Any suggestions for fixing this?

By any chance you have the delete icon visible in Hub and it is being pushed accidentally?

Edit: just saw the other thread, so the answer to the question above should be "no". Perhaps it's best if you keep this in the same thread?

Similar, if not same issue here on my Classic. More than one Contact has parts or all of the thread missing. Multiple messages lost in a thread(almost a year's worth) then a few from 12 months ago, then a skip of several months in which I know there were messages.
Confounding, frustrating,...............Any help? Pretty certain that they were not deleted on purpose or accidentally.

Contacts>scroll down to the contact & select>Activity

Look for msgs or calls within that section

Or

Contacts>scroll down to the contact & select>Links

See if they are listed as: Local contacts, Sim contacts, Yahoo contacts, outlook contacts or whatever address book they may be listed in. It's possible that the contact is getting delisted in the random address book updates and as a result, some texts may go missing.

Not sure if this is a possibility, but i was thinking it could be a related issue.

Appreciate your input, I will try looking to see if some contacts were saved differently, but I doubt it since the missing texts were from one of the very first contacts I put into the device (wife & kids) that went missing.

@scubafan: In your Hub, have you possibly pinched to only view priority msgs, without realizing it? Tap the lower left corner (3 horizontal lines) in your Hub to bring up a list of the various apps that run there. Make sure Priority Hub is not highlighted (2nd from top) and tap Hub at the very top to be sure all your messages from each app are displayed.

Then test the apps in the Hub: if you tap Texts in that same Hub list, do you see different messages than what you see if you open the texts icon from your home page?

I tried looking, AFAIK the hub is showing everything, it is at the top & I don't see any different list when I select text messages from under the hub vs hitting the text icon from the home page. I've pretty much always swiped left to get to texts instead of tapping the text icon anyway.

Appreciate your idea though, it was worth looking at!

@scubafan, if it weren't for the fact that you'd wipe your phone's contents in the process, I'd recommend using an autoloader to just re-install your phone's OS and start again from scratch. It really sounds like something has gotten corrupted, and it may continue to get worse while you're hunting down the culprit.

You said something about swiping left to get to your texts instead of using the texts icon. You're talking about accessing them in the Hub. Have you opened Texts with the icon to see if there's any difference?

Something else that may help salvage any texts which you can't see anymore: Back up the contents of your phone to either your SD card or even better, to your desktop. If there are hidden text messages you can't see, the backup might pick them up and then you can restore them.

Thanks for the suggestions! I actually have tried to use the SMS backup but had difficulty restoring the texts. I hadn't tried Ultimate Backup yet since AFAIK there wasn't any easy way to pay for it. I'll try the link.
