    Hi everyone,

I just wanted some clarification on an item I am aware of and found some information on Blackberry's quarterly earnings report.

It's my understanding that BB10 devices don't have the compression of the data and that BBM and email messages are NOT routed through Blackberry's NOC/network?. Does this mean that those messages don't have the same level of security and encryption that a BBOS device would have for a general consumer who's not on BES service? Does this explain the service revenue that Blackberry generates from BBOS devices?

    Thanks for your assistance,

I would say yes and no.

You can still encrypt your connection to most email servers, and keep some level of security.

Now, I believe people willing to look at your emails have many more efficient ways than to spy your communications.

This is a very complex question which requires a fairly in depth knowledge of how BlackBerry communication works on BBOS and BB10 to understand.

The short answer is that BB10 is much more secure than BIS. BBM on BIS should not be considered secure, but BBM between BB10, Android and iOS devices is.

The connection between your email clients and the server can normally be encrypted, but most email sent between servers is not. Many of the larger providers like Google do encrypt email to other servers that also support it, but it has to be supported on both ends.
