    Hello,

Assuming some experts answer, this thread may be useful for those getting a new phone tomorrow or wednesday.

The handbook for the Q10 states that the battery should be fully charged before use. For precisely how long should it be charged, and is this in switched-off mode or on?

If the former, I'm assuming unpack box, put battery into phone, once its rebooted select 'full power off' then leave it?

    Any other battery-conditioning tips?

New lithium batteries have no memory effect and are not harmed by trickle charging. The reason they recommend to fully charge it is that there is no guarantee the battery will be charged at all when finally in use..

The only areas of concern for you should be temperature and a complete discharge as both are damaging the battery.
When your BlackBerry gives up after a hard day and turns itself off, do not try to squeeze the last little bit of usage out of it by turning it back on (or at least trying to).

This mainly a safety buffer for the battery you are depleting, increasing the risk of losing mAhs of capacity through deep discharge.

Also try to keep your phone away from unnecessary heat as Lithium batteries hate hot temperatures.
This is less damaging, however in the short term.

In short: Charge it whenever you can and do not leave it in direct sunlight/ on the Radiator and you should habe a great battery life for a couple of years!

And if you're not using the battery for a while, Li-ion is best stored at approximately 40%.

Thank you Sirs. I shall just charge it until the screen says full, and ignore the advice of 10/15 years ago to charge for 12 hours etc.

    Appreciate the quick info.
