It destroys the battery, so you better plug the phone to a car charger, or it will kill it in a couple hours
Just an update that the latest 3.8 Waze is really slow to operate on my Q10. Once it's running, it seems to work just fine, but has closed on its own a couple times when I'm on a call and forget to make it the active screen again.
I think it closes on its own when you are not moving for a long time. Maybe it is to conserve the battery. But it doesn't crash on me after calls.
Yeah, this app is one of the main reasons I have to keep going back to my Note. I travel a lot and must have great navigation. Not thrilled with BlackBerry Maps

So, I use Waze to commute around the Washington, DC area all the time, without any problem most days. But when I visit family in New Jersey on the weekends, the application does not work at all on the I-95 corridor between northern Baltimore and southern Jersey.
I went back and forth with Waze on Twitter, asking if the problem may be the poor signal from my carrier (T-Mobile), or the crush of traffic that 95 sees on Fridays and Sundays in the summer.

Their response kind of let me down.

That's indeed discouraging, but it's also a brush-off. I think it's very unlikely that the BlackBerry hardware is the cause of the problem. Why would the hardware fail in just that area? Moreover, they've listed the app in BB World, so they ought to at least look into the problem for you.
I'd ask them for a little more than that.
Is the screen forced to stay on at all times during navigation because it's an Android app? I notice that Waze cannot be minimized or run with the screen off to save power.
You can turn off the screen to save battery, audio navigation will still work.
Used until BB maps became available for India, i still think Waze is the best out there!

I use waze but one annoying thing bugs me. The app shuts down if I make a phone call or receive a call and talk for more than a few minutes.
Z30 + Z10 latest release OS and soon the passport.
Zed, I say, it's pronounced Zed, Z30
On the Q10? What about just driving around without a route set? IE: Leaving it open in case you need to report stuff.
I've tried both and the app doesn't seem to work if I close the screen.

Just came back to say that my sideloaded waze on the Q10 works wonders for me and I can use all the options including giving advices and chatting in the road.
The first time I installed It, it was bugged beyond usable, so I uninstalled it and even created a new account and then it started working flawlessly.
It is energy hungry so have this in mind when using it. It has saved me many times when going to work in the morning

If I close the screen, it stops working after some minutes. Thats its only flaw.
But you dont need to close it if you have it plugged into a charging cord.

Yeah, I keep it plugged in.
Can the screens "burn out" the way backlights on old cellphones could? If keeping the screen on a lot could damage it, I may have to lessen my Waze activity.

Nope, no burn in these days.
QUESTION: Waze for BB10 is native app or Android app, even if its' on BlackBerry World?
It's an Android port. I just tried it on my Passport and it worked fine but drained the battery like crazy, just as it did on my Q10.
Posted from my Passport.
There's a new update for Waze from Snap.
Anyone tried this on the Q10?

I haven't tried it but I'll bet it requires Google Services.
Why? The old one didnt?
Posted via CB10
No it didn't. But Google bought Waze a year or so ago, and I think it's only a matter of time before they make it dependent on their proprietary services.
Waze on BBW is not available for Q but I downloaded it via Snap and works great so far. The only issue is the time zone show on the arrival time is always GMT.
I read somewhere that to fix the GMT issue you need to get a timezone changer android app. I just grabbed one appropriately named "Time Zone Changer" and adjusted the time to EDT5 for example. Worked for me.

It is working fine. On the passport. One is zoomed on and the other is zoomed out...

PassportSQW100-1/10.3.0.1052 and z30
This zoom feature is a 10.3 feature I assume? Or is it strictly a passport feature?
