I noticed that after the 10.2 update, you have to press the alt of shirt key every single time you want to use either of them and it will not allow you to hold the key down and continue to type, it will just go back to the letters. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there an option to change this?

I'm in the US so don't have 10.2 yet but I can't figure out how it works on 10.1. When does it stick and when not?

Well in 10.1 you could just hold either of the buttons down and just type out the symbols or all caps until you stop pressing it. Also I'm on Verizon...I'm running the Rodgers official release.

Yes I have noticed this since yesterday after updating.
I went to log into Password Keeper and as I type in the code the #'s were showing as letters.
It was like I had to press and let go of the alt key press the digit, press the alt key again let it go then press another digit.
Same thing happens when typing elsewhere, to type consecutive #'s you have to press and let go of alt to get the next digit to show.
If you hold down alt and type #'s it will show as 6dsz instead of 6547.

Edit, on a side note has the combination lock avatar on Password Keeper always turned/ tumbled when entering the password. Pretty nifty feature.

Don't hold them down. Press alt then left shift. To release press either alt to shift.

Holding alt and then left shift does not work either. I also preferred just holding down either the alt or shift key when I wanted to type more than one symbol or caps in a row.

If you want all numbers, ie. 123456, then press alt + left shift.

If you want all caps, ie. ABCDE, then press alt+ right shift.

In 10.1 (rogers official) I can just hold ALT and type, and it does numbers. Same with shift.

I can also use Alt+left shift, to lock alt on to type numbers. Same with Alt+right shift to caps lock.

I'm on Q10 with 10.2 OS and those button combinations and holding down the alt or shift key do not work as they did in the previous OS as in 10.1.

on 10.1 you press alt and it appears black with blue letters in upper right corner- that means 1 letter alt
if you long press alt it changes to blue with white letters. once that occurs you let go and start typing should be alt lock. to release press alt again. there is no need to hold the alt key down the entire time your typing. Maybe 10.2 doesn't do this but give it a shot.

But why take it away... it is like a PC keyboard, you have the option to hold shift down and type, or use caps lock.

In 10.1 you had 3 options.

    Hold down while you type.
Long press to lock it on.
Alt+left shift (for alt) or Alt+right shift (for shift) to lock it on.

Holding it down is nice for a quick 123 as I don't have to wait to turn it on (or use multiple buttons) and I don't have to turn it off.

Yes I know that is why I'm wondering if there is a fix for an option for it or something like that.

Yup I remember it was working for me too until I downgraded to 10.2 officiel. Now it's just working good "sometimes"

no idea but my guess would be that you type with 2 thumbs on a phone and 10 fingers on a keyboard. Or maybe its a bug.

Hmm, I'm on the official 10.2 and still (thankfully) have all three options working properly, as well. That would drive me crazy, if holding alt or shift didn't work properly after the update. Hope everybody who is encountering this irritating issue gets it worked out eventually.

Would anyone happen to know the keyboard specific bar files that are in the OS? Just the names of them?

I have the leak version of the 10.2.0.1791 you have on Verizon and it works all the ways that have been mentioned. Seems interesting, did you try to reload the OS?Mmaybe that would fix it or try the leak version not sure if that would make a difference.

Running 10.2 here - and the "hold down to lock on shift or alt"option still works just as it did under 10.1 ???

Just tested it by writing in the e-mail application. All the same.
