Has anyone else noticed the ALT on the Q10 doesn't automatically depress like it did on the 9900 and previous models?

For example, I type in a phone number 5191234567 press space, and it keeps typing in ALT selected.

If you do shift and alt does it remain CAPS, too?

So just like previous models ALT and Shift lock it like you're holding down ALT. That's great.

The thing is, when you do that say in a password field or entering a number in contacts, and you move on to another field, it doesn't deactivate, so if you're flying along typing you enter a bunch of jibberish.


Does that make more sense? Older phones knew when to automatically deactivate. I run into this problem like 10 times a day.

Better example is I just went to contacts to test it (I guess the contact app assumes a phone number is gonna be digits so it does it for you) then I came back here to type and ALT was locked

Yehh I've ran into the problem a several times too. It's gets annoying sometimes.

It is not a problem but a change: to use it the old way tap alt; the new way- hold alt until the colour and letters of the alt key become inverted.

I have something similar but not quite the same. My ALT on Q10 is so sensitive that I don't need to "press" the key. When I touch it (while pressing A or S or Z) the ALT is automatically on :'(

Elaine, your keyboard is likely bad. I just got a replacement Q10 because my A key was no longer useable for the same reason. I didn't even have to depress it for random "a" characters to start showing up. If I touched the S or Q, I'd also get A characters.

After a visit to Verizon, they determined that the key was no longer attached.

Same problem here. When I first got the phone it security wiped because I had alt locked and didn't notice because I didn't put it on recently.

Hello BC4, I sent the phone back to Rogers for service (free at this point. A replacement phone would cost $35.00). It's been a week and I still haven't heard from them. We'll see if it works later.
I was so happy with my phone.....

happens to me. Log into my bank acct on pnc.com, last 15million characters are digits, so I type, hit enter, and then the next screen to load loads fine, but on top you see my alt pic. It's a bit annoying, but I'm sure it's a known issue. There is no fix everyone, this is an issue that is out of our control. We are not doing anything wrong.

How long are you holding ALT before typing? If you type right away, it shouldn't stay activated when you release the ALT key. If you hold ALT for more than a second, it locks in place until you hit ALT again. If my guess is correct, don't hit ALT until your other fingers are ready to type and you shouldn't run into this problem again.
