This is making my NUTZ! Why does the screen go dark while doing something? It seems like if you hold it in a certain area (which there are about 4 of) the screen goes dark until you grip it another way? I can not stand this!

I'm guessing you're covering the proximity sensor next to the top speaker?
I agree, you might be covering up the proximity sensor or you might want to try disabling the 'lift to wake' feature and see if that helps the case. I noticed it can be a bit wonky at times.
The Priv has lift to wake? I don't see that.
Perhaps you are accidentally touching the power button, turning the screen off. Easy to do.
I keep mine disabled because it would wake when I didn't need it to.
What the... I've been looking for that, but it seems I was looking the wrong place.
Thanks.

I'm def not hitting any Power buttons and I"m generally holding toward the lower part of the device. I can be watching something or looking at a text and it will go dark and then to my sleep screen. I don't have lift to wake enabled either. ARGH... I wonder if it's the cover/case
What kind of case do you have?
It's the adaptive brightness setting. The phone is adjusting to light. Turn it off in your settings. Settings>display>adaptive brightness. It has a tendency to go wonky.
How about your sleep timeout in settings under display? There's also a stay awake while holding switch under advanced interactions.
Second that. I've never mentioned it because I am such a Priv fanman but mine ust blinks dark sometimes, so quickly I sometimes wondered if it was ME. I turned off adaptive brightness and it stopped.

Download Blackberry Virtual Expert and run the sensor and other tests.
Ok... so my update is this.... I took off the cover I was using and switched to a cover that I got at the Verizon store. So far it's stopped the weird black out... My adaptive brightness was not on.
I'm going to do the sensory test too.
thanks you guys!
Now "we" want to know what kind of cover or case were you using that might have been the issue?
I hope it keeps working.
In my experience, that screen blinking is caused by "Hold to stay awake", and not the Adaptive brightness. Maybe there are two bugs regarding that problem, but since I turned the stay awake option off it never happens.
