The OS is Android. It is different from BB10. It does all the same things. Just differently.
If you expect the priv to be anything like bb10 your setting yourself up for failure and will be highly disappointed. Android and bb10 are very different OS's and you have to understand that when making the switch. Bb10 does things android can't do and vise versa
You can't expect android to live up to what bb10 does for you because it wasn't built that way.
I'm currently on a Samsung s6 after losing my passport, but Ive used android before so it's nothing new to me. Can't wait to get the priv though.

Long term, I expect more BB10-like things to be brought to Android for BlackBerry phones. But I expect that there will be limitations how far that can go. As long as people still have choices to *not* use the BlackBerry specific stuff, I think people will give BlackBerry a chance.
IMHO the purpose of the PRIV is to make BlackBerry a relevant smartphone player again. To to this BlackBerry needed to close the "App Gap". The Android player on BB10 was just not enough. Plus it is such a foreign concept to most smartphone users that is is difficult to market to consumers.
Anyway, to close the app gap in a " market-recognizable" way requires a change to a recognizable and app dev-supported OS. Apple-proprietary iOS is out of the question. Windows phone or Tizen makes little more sense than BB10. So the only logical path is Android. I really wish it did not take BlackBerry over 5 years to figure this out.
The move to Android has probably brought a large number of first-time BlackBerry users to at least consider buying a BlackBerry phone. This is a huge change as compared to the Z10 launch over 3 years ago. Where most Android and iOS users were "meh". And even though BB10 continues to get better, app devs have pretty much moved on.
FWIW: A match made in heaven may be a full-on integration of QNX kernel (instead Linux) with BB10 + Android UI and app compatibility. (I don't know if this is even technically feasible... But, a man can dream.)
Proudly PRIVateering since 2015.
