I'm led to believe the camera on this phone will be good. 18.2MP sounds like some serious stuff, I don't think Chen would allow a crappy camera in this when everything else is top notch, dual edge amoled 2k screen, fiberweave glass backing, high end camera, capacitive keyboard, front facing speakers...

Why would they skimp out on the optics?
Mega pixels numbers doesn't mean anything if you have a crappy sensor. The iphone 6 is a better camera than the passport in almost everyday and it has way less mp

Depends on how google dependent the phone is.

Given the pictures we seen - it's an android phone not a fork - so as dependent as any other - so yes google will be collecting your information. However like any other google phone, the OEM can provide APKs for alternative services (within limits and cannot turn off google's collection of information) - so the blackberry experience suite.

If it didn't do that - we wouldn't see the "powered by Android" logo on the boot-screen leaks.

I'm not sure it is. I haven't seen a side-by-side comparison between the two. Have you?

Just try to take a close up with a bbry 10 device or iphone...
Iphone is waaaaay faster man. Pictures from my passport are great once they are focussed right, but it takes soooo long...

The fact that this device is going to use an unheard of 18mpx sensor and features OIS, dual led flash and phase detect autofocus gives me hope that BlackBerry is very serious on capturing more market space.

Every device before this had an older or very old sensor inside when launched.

I find this very interesting as far as BlackBerry is concerned.

While I agree the iphone 6 focuses very fast, I won't agree it's a better camera in everyway.

On static objects, even in low light, my passport camera beats my fiance's ip6 in sharpness, colour rendition and bokeh.

There were many reasons why I have ditched the q10/classic.
One of them being the bad camera. Literally all pics inside a club/restaurant whatever or on the streets at evening are WHACK!
I hope that with the arrival of the Slider I can ditch my IP 6 + BB 9900 and be a one-phone-man again like I was when the BB9900 just got released.

BTW, do we already know something about the video capabilities?
    Does it shoot in 4k????

Why? Do you have a 4K TV with a 4K capable player? 99% of the market doesn't. Even ultra high-end AV hardware can currently pretty much handle just 4K pass-through at 30 FPS. Adding 4K on these devices is a gimmick at best. It consumes huge amounts of storage for no increase in picture quality. This is nothing like moving from SDTV to HDTV. This is more like 3D, a flop.

Who gives a **** about how many mega pixels the damn camera has. The human eye can't even tell the difference after about 8mp or so. Unless you are trying to reprint or blow up pictures you don't need it.

Please just give us a high quality sensor like the iphone 6. We need high quality images, and not the most pixels.

More megapixels equates to smaller photo sites, which usually means more noise and poorer low-light performance.

Hmm, I'm really hoping it's in that range too. At the very least Passport size.

If it's not running BB10 with the Runtime... it might not need a battery as big as the Passports. BB10 is a very bad at power utilization.

But I think most of us will be fine if we can get through one day.

Hope it comes with ultra power saving mode or something similar, would be useful.

Yes, as a matter of fact, I have and I like the possibility to watch the vids I made with my smartphone on this huge screen.
    99% of the market doesn't.
99%? Where does this percentage come from? Have a source?
Anyway, it'll only be a matter of time until 4k will be available to the mainstream due to the prices going down.
Heck, even 5k monitors have already launched.

Who gives a **** about how many mega pixels the damn camera has. The human eye can't even tell the difference after about 8mp or so. Unless you are trying to reprint or blow up pictures you don't need it.
Yes, I like to watch my pics on the aforementioned big TV. But in the end you're right if 18mp would turn out to be crappier than the current IP6 8mp camera, then it's of no use anyways. I just hope this Venice cam will let me take "proper" low-light photos....although no BlackBerry to date really delivered "proper" low-light photos. However, I like to be surprised in November after I ordered and tested it.

This is sourced from a site that just loves 4K.

Worldwide sales of 4K TVs in 2015 will almost certainly surpass 30 million units sold according to research

5% of units sold in 2014 were 4K. Out of all TVs sold in the past 3-5 years, this probably represents no more than 1%. If you consider things globally, I'd bet it is less than 1%. Also, what content (besides your short home movies) will you watch in 4K? Some YouTube videos (assuming your connected source can actually output at the appropriate resolution)?

It might be a bit slower, though I'm not sure if this is still the case with the latest OS. And focus is just one aspect, I find the camera to be very good overall.
