What if the Venice isn't "secure" for the consumer market, will you still buy it?

Since everyone is so anxious for this phone to be released and the talk of "Securing" Android is at an all time high, how many of you will buy this phone if its just an Android phone will no extra security measures in place unless you are an enterprise customer? I'm guessing a small portion of people since security is of paramount importance to the vast majority in here.

So if Blackberry comes out with this device and Chen says "We've secured Android for the Enterprise customer but are also going to make it available as an Android option for the consumer" will you still buy it?

Yep! Sadly work conditions are pushing me towards its vs. Android anyway, so in my eyes the Venice is my best option at still supporting BlackBerry.

No, never. I was literally just in the phone with a friend who owns a Samsung S5, and he told me that he has the Ghost Push virus on it and the stagsfight.

His phone is now installing apps itself via cellular, and deleted his text message app so he can't send or receive sms/mms. It froze during a call and went really hot.
Now he did a factory reset, it's still like that. Missing messages app, the settings app is messed up and it's not possible anymore to receive emails.

So this is android at the minute. The virus Ghost Push got Root access to android devices.

This is not goo for a device that's meant to work whenever you need it. Imagine this phone now in an accident or anything serious, you can't place a call because it's got a virus on?!

No, never android. Just because millions of people like the clicky colours and stuttery OS doesn't mean that the OS is good.

I need a phone that doesn't let me down. I just ordered a Nokia 6500 classic just in case my Z30 is old and dies.



Are you sure your friend didn't leave out any important details, such as what type of activity he was up to that exposed him to those viruses? I can work in the most secure environment all the live long day, but if I'm engaging in activity that compromises that security, I can't necessarily blame the system for not protecting me enough. I know most consumers don't feel that way, and if anything like this were to happen to them, honestly they'd never be "safe" if their behavior doesn't change.

I just need a physical keyboard. I'd blackberry wasn't releasing this, is probably end up getting the note 5 with that ugly keyboard case.

Physical keys man.. Just gimmi gimmi. I need to be able to type with a quickness and with very little typing errors. I swear this auto correct on my phone is making me a terrible speller.

Any device is only as secure as the user is willing to make it. Your friend download apps from a random app store other than Google Play?

I think there was a porn app for Android that would snap a picture of you, then would try to extort money from you..

But then again this app was not on the official play store and you'd have to download it off some shady website so that's their fault.


I'll admit I'll sometimes torrent movies on my phone it's risky but eh I know what I'm getting myself into.

So, if you are unable to keep your PC virus and malware free you blame your os and switch to pen and paper? That's ridiculous. Modern people should know how to use their devices, if they don't want and don't even care about that then they may deserve it.

This is what I am expecting. It will be just like vanilla android for personal apps, so Google gets what they want, but the Android for Work business partition will be more private and secure, because Google has realised iOS is ahead in enterprise and agreed to BlackBerry's privacy stance.

Google is already is preparing its next android M update and never agreed with BlackBerry privacy system. BlackBerry knows it can't bit android, so they just following Google to stay in the market. I have doubt that there will not be any such restricted folder in Venice which can't be accessible by play store services.

There is no unknown vendor's apps in play store now. Google has already put instructions to declare the identity of apps developer for keeping their apps in play store.

Keep in mind that the biggest security risk with smart phones is not simply with the phone's OS but what the user does while using it.

The new Android phones will be secure but only if you have a BES. Pretty much like the current BlackBerry 10 lineup

Don't forget android is open source operating system.

Some of you need to educate yourselves on what makes a BlackBerry 10 device secure. Check out this link for a starting point.

Android for Work is what provides this partitioning, it is not something BlackBerry has pushed Google to agree on.

Venice is not a BlackBerry 10 device. Its an android.

Time will tell who will be benefited. We should not forget that BlackBerry is struggling to stay in the market.

I have said to my iPhone / android friends for years, I need a keyboard. If someone else makes an amazing keyboard phone I would consider it.

Considering that BlackBerry can't be bothered to update the Facebook app and I can't open half the posts people comment on I am out of BlackBerry 10 and on to android.

If that fails I will just buy a budget device and learn to tap on glass like ever other auto correct fool.

Dude, read up on ghost push. It's crazy. Malicious ads on webpages can be used to inject the code. It's probably the worst, fastest spreading and most serious mobile virus threat we have ever seen.
