Earlier this evening, I went check my phone and the stock wallpaper as well as stock apps were on my homescreen. To my horror the phone seemed to have factory reset itself. All my apps, contacts, email, etc were gone and the phone wanted me to set it up. I then did a re boot and everything reverted back to normal. I don't know how it happened and was wondering if anyone has ever encountered this?

That's... pretty bizarre. In all my years of using a wide variety of Android devices, I can say that I've never had that happen to me when I've done nothing with the device. Sure, when I've been messing around with partitions and what not for various reasons, sometimes I make an oops, and everything goes dead, but never entirely on its own has this happened for me.

You can create more than one account on your device. Maybe it had somehow accessed those settings.

It's a stv100-3, no picture password and no other users.

Night fire's idea sounds like the one, it may have enabled the guest account for some reason?

All it needs is to open the user settings and tap guest once

Thanks, I just switched to guest and it simulated what happened. Must have done it by accident, mystery solved!
