I'm running parallel with you on this path.

I fear what will happen to windows phone now that I bought one to try.

Actually Windows Phone has SOME potential, especially the Continuum feature. Too bad they are too afraid it will take away from their desktop and laptop market to give it a full x86 environment, otherwise that would be a killer feature.

Hope they can see the potential and reconsider, considering Android is getting WINE on Atom phones.

What would it take to get rid of him? A board vote? Wonder if anyone owns enough shares to push for this.

Maybe there is a Steve Jobs type that used to be at BlackBerry and could come back and believe in and love the product.

Chen is the harbinger of BlackBerry's death.
He lead it to its end.

I asked a legit question. And am staying a fact. If you're going to get me banned it's pretty lame man.

Besides you can't "Chen" me more than I've already been. I don't call names to other users and I don't troll. I'd say your message to me is threatening another member. Maybe I should go cry about it.

Most of the tech people are excited about the PRIV out there, since it differentiate enough from other Android manufacturers. Only CB is crying about losing BB10 which is almost dead ( to most of phone users). Why don't ya give him a little bit more time to see how it goes after the PRIV release?
The tech people are just a niche like the current buyers of Blackberry..Moms, pops, and their kids could care less about the techies and their blogs..

No, we absolutely did not want him saving the company if all it means in future is to sell toaster ovens for a living. Others already do that better.

And that is about what he's done.

The Board has to go, not just Chen, or maybe not even Chen at all: you can tell the board has a list of "resorts" that they're crossing off one-by-one. Is switching to Android the "last resort" or do they have a few more up their sleeves? Maybe they'll acquire an energy drink company and try marketing BlackBerry flavoured hyper-caffeinated beverages. It's a mystery!

The board never had the list in the proper order and are willing to cross off things that shouldn't be on the list at all I.e. Non-negotiable aspects of what makes BlackBerry "BlackBerry". Merely staying in business is an achievable short term goal, but nothing they are doing will result in making BlackBerry viable in the long term: any competitive advantage they may have now will eventually be eroded and they will be driven further and further into obscurity. The fact that this is what the board is directing the executive to do indicates that it it the board that is at fault here and they who have to go.

The absolute BEST case scenario is that the Slider is a success... In which case they are acquired for their hardware and security patents, but if the Slider isn't a success what will they "resort" to next? Attempt to revive BB10? Of course not. Or kill the handset division? Sure, I guess... Until Apple or Microsoft or a robust open source team puts their energy into MDM software, then they are well and truly bleeped. But by the grace of their competitors are they even allowed to stay in business with this "direction".
    Another valid point.

I think John Chen is trying to do his best in a very bad situation. Regarding helping BlackBerry survive as a business, he has done well, in my opinion. About the handset business, people just needlessly get worked up, with posts like the OP.

People were speculating that BlackBerry would soon be out of the hardware business back when I got my Q10 in 2013. Almost 2.5 years later, BlackBerry is still making devices and the sky didn't fall on our heads.

Totally agree...I just picked up a Z30 two months ago and I believe we should be good until March 2016 since BB is rolling out an update around that time. I also will not spend any more of my cash on BB handsets or accessories. Chen is coy about his words and is waiting to see how the Priv do. You can not pause and stop development in this industry like they have done with BB10. Rumor has it that Microsoft will release a new Surface phone (Drop the Lumina name) with an intel processor in 2016. I for one will wait to see what else is available before I drop cash on current BB10 phones. One guy just sold his Passport to get as much as he can before the value drops once BB10 is officially announced dead.

Well I for one, am not going to make the same mistake all over again and purchase another OS Platform with a dying ecosystem, dying OS... as in not getting updates, and dying apps as in apps never getting updates resulting in not working or giving me inaccurate data/information.

You can try and type all the intellectual gymnastics you keep doing (and it doesn't even make any sense) to justify BB10, and I am just observing all my hands-on experiences with the device, and my observations with the outside world (web or real world). And I conclude this: BB10 is becoming useless week after week, month after month. I am not an early adopter, so I can only hope that my Z30 serves me until March 2016 when all competing devices (including the OS, apps, features, ec.) have settled down and I can pick which one is the right one for me.

BB10 is dead. The only thing missing is the funeral. No amount of denials, ignores, or fancy intellectual gymnastics can change what I see.

    1. My biggest disappointment with Chen has been his approach to Marketing the devices. When I show persons
I have a friend I lent a Blackberry Z10. First she was apprehensive but eventually she loved the device so much that today she is still in love with the BB 10.

    2. The second issue is pricing. Given the market perception of Blackberry the pricing. Every device launched has been over priced and the price cuts have followed.

Pre-Chen, BB10 was not quite ready went it was released . Versions 10.2/10.3 brought significant improvement. Those using Blackberry Blend can tell you,

The set of answers from the CEO don't help this uncomfortable feeling of uncertainty.
As for me I'll keep my passport for the time being, while paying attention to Jolla, Ubuntu and iOS.
Android and Microsoft are out of the picture, they are two sides of the same coin. Also the certainty of being harvested is a feeling I'm trying to avoid.

If companies are counting on antivirus to keep their info safe they aren't very smart companies. Sure it helps but I don't think the NSA is interested in company secrets unless the company is about terrorist. The NSA also doesn't care how much porn you watch unless it's children.
