Does the Hub shortcut (hold the Home button and slide) still work even with a third party launcher such as Nova?

I'm new to Android, where can I learn more about launchers. Is there a downside to not using the blackberry one?

The launchers are downloadable through the play store. Most of them have a free and paid version. There isn't really any upside or downside of switching. Some launchers are more customizable than others. They also do things like change animations for homescreens and such. I used nova, TouchWiz, and Google launcher on my note 3 with the Google launcher being my favorite. I however love the blackberry launcher (which I believe is just a tweak version of Google now launcher) so I would say the one you have now is the best. Personal preference of course.

I can't figure out how to get the lock screen shortcut to work on the Nova launcher. Is this possible to do?
