The positive comments seem to be about the factory unlocked units. I did not see a single mention of AT&T there. My, now 4 day old, AT&T carrier unlocked (maybe - it was in a factory sealed AT&T box) unit has very short battery time, 3 to 4 hours if being used, and runs hot. If on the charger and it's awake the battery level just holds its own and does not charge. I have checked the usage of the apps and the dominant one is the display - set at about 50% followed by Bluetooth. I ran the same fitness band on my Passport with no problem.

This is one of the apparently surplus units being sold online for around $400. I wonder if that was a defective batch that were discounted so much.

... Just asking, because with my Priv (factory unlocked) I get excellent battery life, my (rear) camera is excellent, the sound is loud and clear and as good as can be expected.... My Priv doesn't get hot, it doesn't lag, phone and internet reception/ performance is excellent, call voice quality is superb, bluetooth has no issues, the screen is amazing, the Hub works fine with all my emails, texts, and social apps. No squeaks, crackles, bends, or build issues.

I've owned cell phones and smart phones since the late '90's. I average a new device less then every two years. I am firmly a moderate/ moderately heavy user. I worked in the industry for years before moving to a different profession a few years ago.
Since I hear so much negativity here, I'm Just wondering- Am I unusual for having no appreciable problems and loving the device?

Please shout it out if you feel some luv for your Priv!
Thanks for the positive thread. Good to know that you are enjoying the phone. Priv is a great device indeed . I am in the same boat .

My question - is there something wrong with my Priv. I noticed today with two applications, one CPU X and a Compass 360 Pro that my compass reading is wild, vibrates around a large range of values. Also with CPU X the orientation sensor readings also are wildly changing. On all my previous phones, Passport and Z10 the compass was rock solid.

So, is this normal or is there something wrong with my phone? Could this account for the very high power consumption. The battery is down 40% in 1.5 hours this AM.

You might want to post this in its own thread. But have you tried rebooting

From BB blog: How to reset PRIV by BlackBerry | Inside BlackBerry Help Blog

    Three restart/reboot methods

The first method, which should be used 99.9% of the time when you want to reboot your device, is using the Reboot option that appears after pressing the Power key.

Press and hold the Power key for 3 seconds
Select Reboot from the menu that is presented

The second reset method should be used if pressing the Power key does not produce the menu with Power Off and Restart. For example, if an app or game you are using won’t close, use this option to restart your device.

Press and hold the Power key for 12 seconds

Third method: Should your device fail to respond, the final reset method is to press and hold the Power key for 32 seconds which is equivalent to removing the battery. This should result in your device booting up successfully.

If it fails to start, however, verify you are not pressing any other keys such as Volume Up, Mute, or Volume Down while performing any of the reset methods listed above. If you use a case for your device you may want to remove it as it might be pressing a button inadvertently.

I'm a BlackBerry device specialist. I bought a Priv through AT&T, returned it due to performance, and purchased it directly through ShopBlackBerry. It is a world of difference.

There must be something wrong with mine too, because I have none of the issues that everyone seems to be complaining about here. Mine was purchased from Rogers in Canada. The MM update improved performance greatly. Actually, truth be told, the only reason I considered getting the Priv (an Android device), was because I new MM was coming to it soon and new that it would finally give Android users permission control without rooting the device. Had that not been an option, I would not have considered an Android device.

Given that I have a $414 unit, the difference between it an a ShopBlackBerry unit is around $250 as well as performance.
Since AT&T had an exclusive, the first production units likely went to them so there could be some hardware issues. But some of the AT&T & Google applications could be dragging it down.

Hey jgrobertson, since you mentioned that your device is quite new, did you ensure that all of your Blackberry apps are upgraded to the latest versions available in Google Play? If not, the latest versions would help improved the performance of your device... Open Google Play app, click on the menu icon in the top left hand corner and tap on My apps & games to see if there are any apps waiting to be updated..

I love the Priv, but it occasionally makes knocking noises. It was more frequent when I first got it. BB support said they would replace the phone, but I told them the phone works fine outside the knocking noises. The knocking has subsided a little in one month; it knocked twice. The only think I don't like is dependence on Google. Google Play, for example, doesn't operate off the grid, but Groove does. I only wish all my purchased music would play offline, like when I was able to save them on my Curve and Z-10.

I don't use that. But I suggest you either search or post a new Thread about using your Google music offline or saved to your phone - I suppose it is possible???
