Probably direct AUD conversion. Which once again does not factor Carphone Warehouse's margins and VAT.

All I can say as a loyal customer is...HELP ME HELP YOU!

I want BlackBerry to succeed, but they keep pulling boners like this. $900 US for a smartphone is bordering on the ridiculous.

I'm sure the major US carriers will have a way for their customers to get the phone without absorbing that pain quite as much, but still...that's too much.

    BlackBerry...help me help you.

There is no way it'll be sold in carrier stores in the US at that price. As others have said I'd expect something more like 699.00 at launch.

Thanks for the work Toni, that's so helpful of you. I don't know if you know how how to deduct the VAT in the UK or not, you probably do know, but just in case, it's 20% so divide by 120 and multiply by 100, then convert to dollars and we'll be able to see if one country is paying more than the other.
Thanks again. It should stop all the misunderstandings about price on here.

Yeah I know, I'm just not sure if it's fixed 20% on everything or by country of origin. Thought VAT would be closer to duties rather than taxes.

Can purchase a One plus 2 with has the same specs and is $300. I really want BlackBerry to do well but if they out price themselves it won't sell.
The one plus won't work on Verizon for instance, in the US far as I know. Lacks the iconic keyboard. Lacks NFC and has some other shortcomings others have mentioned. Also lacks whatever security features BB is building in to the Priv.

This device will still be targeted at business customers. In the US selling it on Verizon matters the most. Assuming the all four major carriers rumors are true.

OMG! Are you for real? Point one, that's Australian Dollars. Point two, those bozos just converted the UK price inclusive of our 20% VAT. I don't think Australia pays UK sales tax, do you?

It's 20% in the UK on everything except necessities and children's clothes. Some things are reduced rate, but pretty much everything is 20%. It's always included in the price for consumers but separately for business purchases. Apparently the US prices on display don't include tax at all and the tax is added at the point of sale.

    Wow!

I've said the Priv would be DOA if BB priced it at iPhone 6s and Samsung Edge levels. Pricing it at *more* than either of those phones, IMO, makes that outcome certain.

    Well Done BB, Well Done!

I would pay up to $1000 CAD for the Priv but I wouldn't even pay $800 for an iphone.

I'm sure Chen will be delighted to hear that. I'm equally sure that "money no object" buyers, of anything, form a very small minority of the general public.

I suspect that the majority will set their limit significantly lower than $1,000, but I respect your right to spend your money as you wish.

I sincerely hope that the Priv justifies your faith in it over the coming months.

Not surprised at all. The Priv with a 2K resolution AMOLED curved screen, sliding mechanism, and a capacitive keyboard has arguably the most expensive hardware any phone has. It's bound to be expensive.

you can talk about price equality when BB sell 13 millions units the first weekend of release, till then either you sell half the price of IP6 or your won't sell at all. Look at Samsung difficulty of moving units of S6 edge..Nexus is as niche as the Priv and can't hardly sell any at a lower price than most flagships. Who care what few people here are willing to pay...this is a phone that should attract more than few thousands aficionados. Users out there do not even know who BB is anymore and you want to sell at $1k...how many Oppo you see out there(they sell at outrageous prices too)?

Microsoft will breathe a sigh of relief. Should help the 950/xl sales. Probably a few looking at both as an alternate to the status quo and this price could tip the scales. Certainly made me think twice. Will probably stick with my Google free LG g3.

I was hoping to be cheaper, $500 would have been a great deal considering they NEED to sell phones whether they make money or not. If they're going to sell it at iphone 6s and galaxy edge + prices then I expect samsung and iphone type announcements and marketing, as well as supply and costumer service. Blackberry charges premium prices and then send you to digital river to purchase the phone online and every time they take weeks to just ship the device, then John Chen comes out showing off the device and he doesn't even know how to use it, just claims it runs google. If Samsung and Apple are able to charge $800 for a phone is because they market their phones so much that people are willing to pay for it just to show off that they have the latest trends.

Too expensive! Priv doesn't look like a premium phone, selling at that price make it not competitive against offerings from Samsung, LG, HTC and Apple.

Yes, fifty quid more than last year's Passport. You'd think it had a higher spec or something.
