Not if you like using Data in Canada, and like money.

    Robellus is evil.

I was on Rogers paying 90 a month for limited data for 3 years and will never do that again.
This. No way in hell I'm taking another contract, not going to jump hoops again to get my plan. Help me Black Friday sale, you're my only hope.

BlackBerry said they need to sell 5 million devices a year to stay afloat.

That's not going to happen at this price..

That will be approx 483 + 20% VAT (Sales Tax) - Note: in the UK all consumer pricing has to be Inclusive of Sales Tax (unlike in the US).

Therefore the US equivalent price would be approx $745 + Sales Tax....

BUT consumer items are generally much more expensive in the UK than they are in the US so I would expect the US price to significantly lower than $745 (+ Sales Tax)

If i keep the same ratio than the passport between the carphone price in pounds and the euro price in France, Priv would be 750€ in France. Ouch.
not as much. Passport was 530€ and 650€ in Europe. So would look more for 699€ for the Priv in Europe

It better be $599 or less in the US.

But who am I kidding? I have a difficult time justifying spending $300 on a phone, so I'm not going to get it on release day, anyway.

And no, I'm not going to get suckered into a contract or "upgrade" plan just to get one. I've learned my lesson.

I think the starting price should be $649. Then it can go to $599 in a few months.

Even at this price, the Priv is "only" 50 more expensive than the Passport (530€ at launch in the UK). So you Americans really think that it will cost 900$???

Sounds ok to me. I got the Passport when it was 529 so that's fine. You can usually get it cheaper by getting it on contract and paying a bit upfront. For example: the Passport was 529, I paid 60 upfront and the phone part of the contract was 8 per month (28 per month with the airtime plan) the airtime plan or line rental or tariff, whatever you want to call it was 20 a month on a sim only basis. 24 X 8 = 192. 192 + 60 = 242. That's what my Passport cost. 242. I got it from CPW on day one of the UK General release, 2 days after the Selfridge launch. Don't pay cash for the phone before checking out the deals available. O2 refresh is the same, cheaper to spread the cost. (sometimes).

The UK price includes our VAT at 20%. The American price does not include tax. The UK price before VAT is 483.33. That's the figure you convert. $750 at today's exchange rate. Then you can knock $100 off because that's the way things have always been in the mobile market. Then there's launch promo or black Friday crap so you'll get it for $599 without breaking a sweat.

I phoned CPW and was told they had no plans to sell sim free in the immediate future and certainly no where on their website does it currently have such an offer. I could not find a contact addy for the author from Techradar, or even Techradar themselves and too lazy to register and log-in to the comments section

Again, electronics do NOT exchange on the same rate as cash.

I build computers and see this all the time, especially in higher end parts like graphics cards. The exchange may point to a product being, say, $800 USD based on exchange rate but the actual price may only be $699. Just examples, but you get the idea.

A lot more goes into different market pricing then just exchange rate.
