All I can say as a loyal customer is...HELP ME HELP YOU!

I want BlackBerry to succeed, but they keep pulling boners like this. $900 US for a smartphone is bordering on the ridiculous.

I'm sure the major US carriers will have a way for their customers to get the phone without absorbing that pain quite as much, but still...that's too much.

    BlackBerry...help me help you.

I wonder if someone in the U.K. has called Carphone Warehouse to find the price of PRIV without any contract . . .

I'm still betting on $699 in the US, and I'm fine with that. This is a premium device.
You're fine with it because you're already invested in the BBRY brand. Any price point substantially over $600 will almost certainly kill the phone in the broader market. Before others chime in wailing about profit and production cost, I understand, but there's a wall between where BBRY wants to be with such a price and what consumers are willing to pay for the brand, and that wall is seven years of cultural irrelevancy, to the point of most consumers thinking that the brand is already dead.

To put the price in perspective (580), here are the current Carphone Warehouse prices for other flagships:

    Samsung Galaxy s6: 449.99 (edge: 529)
    Nexus 6p: 449.99
    Nexus 5x (808 chip): 299.99
    Motorola X Style/Pure: 349.99
    Passport: 399.99
    LG G4: 399.99
    HTC One M9: 529.99

And everyone of those (excepting the Passport) has brand equity and user base that are orders of magnitude higher than BBRY.

    580 from Carphone [Tech Radar].

Much more expensive than I would recommend to anybody.

    Posted via CB10/BB PP SE.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 edge 32GB is priced at 529.99 at car phone warehouse in the UK which would assume the price of the phone here would be C$1057.83 this is not the case. The price in Canada is C$829. That device is almost 6 months old now. So for the Priv to be 580 isn't crazy. It's not as simple as just doing the exchange rate. A lot of other import fees and everything come into play. That said...

I would assume the Price in Canada for the Blackberry Priv will be $899. and In the US about $699.

Is this not a guess price at this point?

I seem to remember Clove used to have pre-release prices whenever a new phone was announced, and as it got nearer to release the price fell

I can't see them getting away with that price at all

US$890 is probable as good as BlackBerry can do and still make money....
That's the problem... BlackBerry is always looking to eek out money on things that history has shown, you should not.

Android is a saturated market, yes it is known.

BlackBerry is a now small player, again yes.

Microsoft showed us that it took 2 generations of xbox before they could start putting profit into their hardware.

BlackBerry should honestly have pushed the priv at 0 profit margin. They are starting over- yes it sucks... but it's how it is.

IMO the priv needs to be cheaper than equivalent hardware and give the advantages of DTEK, keyboard etc.

Once it builds and shows market the next generations can start getting some skin on the hardware.

HOWEVER, IMO Chen wants this to fail. The stock needs to tank and sit at 6 for longer than it did. He needs to decapitate the hardware division and show everyone "see! We just CANT make money on this!" once hardware is done then SAP can come on in for the buyout... they have no, no desire to hold anything hardware and they don't want to be seen as the big bad that cuts off hardware.

If the priv is over 600usd, it's just dumb and ignorance, in everyone believing Chen.

Whilst a price is unconfirmed, the per month pricing on Carphone Warehouse is consistent with something around this amount.

Not if you like using Data in Canada, and like money.

    Robellus is evil.

I was on Rogers paying 90 a month for limited data for 3 years and will never do that again.
