I thought I would zoom in and up the brightness and contrast to get a look at the keyboard. Here we see the standard 4 row keyboard, volume rockers, and headphone port on the bottom. I'm not sure what that is on the side of the black one, but maybe USB port.

Why is the top of the search button cut off? It's like the UI is actually an overlay with a bright backlight behind it.

It probably isn't an operating device.

This is the best explanation for what we are seeing. The icons are also too bright and lack real colors.

So are those soft keys for the search, camera and hub? Would that be the touch sensitive strip we've seen in patents. Maybe users use that as a trackpad similar to my old palm pres

I don't think we can really take much away from this prototype even if we could figure all of this out by the photos. All it would tell us is what this particular non-production unit has.

I have heard that there will be a number of changes before it goes into production in June.

I love gadgetry, like physical keyboards of various designs and sliders. I love buttons and gadgets that change. This slider is going to ROCK!!!!!!!!!

I'm extremely concerned about that keyboard. It looks like a chicklet style keyboard, ala the old Palm/HP Pre-series phones.Slider zoomed in pics side by side.-pre3-keyboard.jpg

Functionally it looks very useful. But without a wow factor in design, I doubt it's success. IMO a full touch passport(squared) might sell well.

It is. If you watch the video when he closes it, the back light shuts off but the icons a still easily visible.

I'd be super excited about a successor to the Torch series. I LOVED my Torch. That said, to really capture that wow factor, I'm hoping hoping hoping that they don't release this with some panzy spec sheet. Specs aren't everything, but come on... how many low range phones are they going to put out this year?

Should have just made a passport slider. I don't see any great need for a PKB on that form factor over the virtual one. Seems like a real ergonomic nightmare really.

He is like holding two separate pieces together. Who is holding a working phone with a thumb in the middle of the screen? This phone doesn't even have working prototype for sure.

It's confirmed in another thread (don't have a link handy) that the screen is just a static paper picture behind plastic with a backlight lighting the whole thing. The backlight turns off in the video but the image is still visible on the screen. It isn't a working prototype.

Well never had a blackberry slider but what I have heard is that their keyboards are not as good as the bold keyboards. My passport is amazing and this will be my next phone assuming that the physical keyboard is up to the task.

The keyboard was identical, short of being ever so slightly smaller than the Bold keyboard.

I never had a torch, but one of the biggest complaints i've heard from friends who did was that the keyboard was "sunken in". So while the layout of the keyboard was similar in size and style, the typing experience was very different because one's fingers would have to curve in more as opposed to typing on a bold.
