When I'm charging my phone the password lock comes on after 30 seconds of inactivity. When my phone is unplugged, i don't have to put the password in for 30 minutes. (this is the default I've set it as)

What could possibly cause the difference in password lock timing? is there a setting i don't know about? I prefer it to be 30 minutes like i've set it to be.

This is a generic answer. While your phone is unplugged from the charger, go in to the Setup, then go to the Security Area. Look for the prompt indicating the time for the phone to lock. When changing this feature you should be prompted for your password entry to allow the change.
