Rotatable slider
It would be awesome if the slider could slide up and then slide sideways so the screen would be in a wide-screen format, with the physical keyboard still positioned correctly.
The design would ideally allow you to use the phone in landscape mode or portrait mode in slider mode and as a candy bar when the slider is retracted. There would need to be a pivoting hinge in addition to the sliding mechanism.
A quick sketch would be something like:

Yea it looks terrible. That's why BlackBerry is considering it.

I don't see how this would be practical. What would be the point of using it landscape with the keyboard out? The keyboard it meant for portrait view.

The keyboard could be used to type and you could type in wide-screen kind of like when using a phone in landscape mode, advantage would be not having an oversized far reaching keyboard.

Landscape keyboard = Great idea.
However I'd like to see it Landscape only, a portrait keyboard just seems completely defunct to me based on the quality of the BlackBerry Virtual Keyboard.
The only thing I would use the physical keyboard for in portrait mode is shortcuts, in Landscape mode it would be a functional feature that would save screen real estate.
