So I got my Priv from the recent sale and the box had a date of 040816 which I assume is for august 2016.

Keyboard is mushy, volume up key is stuck (so half the time you press it, it doesn't work).

For those who don't know what mushy means, it means that when you press the key, you can't tell if you actually pressed it or not as the travel is so small. So you end up double typing as you press it twice loll

Don't really care if it was a steal at 397 cad - gotta return it.

Do you think that more than one production run of privs occurred?
The date on the box is the packaging date not the production date.

That date is a boxing date, not a build date. I'm not aware of a way to identify build dates, therefore you may have an early build.

This is my first pkb phone. I find the keys are getting better with time. More clicky. A stuck key can't be good though. I would probably exchange.

I got my priv yesterday and nothing wrong with it - build quality excellent. Boxing date is Oct 16.

@OP: Thanks for debunking this. Your one data point clearly represents all Privs. :-/

Someone posted on the internet there was only one production run. It must be true. Bwahahahahahahahahaha...

Is there no way to determine build dates on the Priv or DTEK phones? On some of my other Android phones you can boot into Recovery Mode, then "Bar Codes" and see the build date. I don't know if it is just certain manufacturers or something that is built into the Android software though.

You can do that on the Priv. And interesting, MFG Date: 2015-12-08 on the ShopBB Priv

2016-02-19 on the Verizon Priv This one also includes MEID number whereas the ShopBB does not.

Products are different, too. Venicena ShopBB (na for North America?)

    venicevzwvzw on the Verizon

You get to it by holding the Power On and Vol Down buttons together (you might get a screen shot, ignore and keep holding)

edited to add: As pointed out, those dates do match the dates on the boxes (I had to find the boxes). Which is interesting. That means they somehow managed to place an EXTERNAL label on the box which matches the integral number stashed somewhere in the hardware.

Hmm so both dates are after the release.

Frankly, I don't know what it means. The date that they burned the rom/os/whatever? Something else? Possibly the date the Keebler Elf put the saran wrap across the screen! Clearly, they had two production runs in some fashion since the Verizon unit is different and contains different antenna/radio. Then there are those with Qi charging and those without.

dd/mm/yy(yy) is the method used. It is much clearer when the dd is more than 12!!!!

Very true indeed. Here in Canada it drives me mad, because there's no consistency in how it's done. As you say, until it's 13 or higher, you can't tell.

In the US it is GENERALLY mm/dd/yy(yy)

As well as miles, yards, feet, inches, pints, quarts and gallons!

I did not realize you were only partial converts! I do know it's frightening to watch the numbers spin on your gas pumps until I remember it is measuring milliliters. (g)

2015-11-17 on my barcode, matches the box, only different format.

It's European format on the box, DD-MM-YY, unless mine was built/boxed on the 17th month

Some boxes say Made in Mexico 4, some say Made in Mexico 6, no clue what that means. Different Mexican Elf's?

My MFG date of 2016-07-19 also matches the date on the box of 190716.
The device name on screen is "veniceemea". No idea what emea suffix means.

Build quality is perfect (so far, touch wood) and no overheating at all which was my real worry.
