Generally you can go to settings -> location -> mode and select if you want WiFi/radio assisted location or not...
Don't own a Priv, just lots of androids, so please don't beat me if I'm wrong 😀
Right, I know that exists on any Android device I have test driven, but BB10 didn't have that ability (to the best of my knowledge) on the Z10 or Z30

I've never seen a GPS in an Android phone that won't run stand-alone, and I've been inside the GPS code of a number of Android handsets. It may take longer to get a lock, however without network assist -- if you've moved a few hundred miles since the last time you used it that time may be quite material too (a couple of minutes) as the ephemeris data will be wrong and the chip has to search and acquire a lock on the first satellite in order to download a correct copy for your location and time.
Incidentally BB10 devices most-certainly do run stand-alone. I have Mireo on my Passport (and did on my Z10 as well) and it works just fine without any cell reception. I also have a different Android offline map program that I have used extensively on my Passport and it works perfectly fine in places where there is zero cellular reception (like parts of the A/T, to be specific.)
