Because global suppliers for the parts used to build the phone trade in USD.
$599 US would be great. It's a more premium price than competitors like Moto X and the LG but it's fair based on what you are getting without having a BlackBerry pricing issue. If this price is right, well played Chen.

The costing/parts are purchased in USD.
Yes it does because virtually all of the vendors/other costs required to bring this or any other device to fruition are paid in USD.
Let's see how much moaning ensues now. This is a very fair price considering other flagship prices.
No it's because USA is the greatest country in the world, why would it not be the basis for everything and anything?
Can't believe you even asked that, -1 Freedom Points for you.
and paid in US dollars bought at a fixed rate in a futures market. I'm afraid the outlook for the Canadian dollar is gloomy given the new government and with it, the promise of further (crippling) deficit financing.
It's actually the same launch price as the LG G4. Both are $599. We just got shafted by exchange rates.

yeah and made in china.....that's crap
Irony is strong with your avatar, supreme leader.
I'll never understand why the prices in Canada/USA doesn't "include" the taxes that everyone (right?) have to pay.. reading 599$ I translate 599 + 20% VAT = circa 720$ so around 690 euros,so 699, Am I right? I was hoping for 599 euros at launch, as I've stated hundreds times! :)

Prices rarely ever include tax. Just the way it is here... 13% in Ontario.
Z30STA100-5/10.3.2.2639
because too many provinces in Canada have different tax bracket
When VAT was introduced in the UK all visible pricing had to be "tax in". All sticker pricing had to show after tax pricing by law. I think jewelry for some odd reason was granted an exemption for a while.
is the VAT, the same across Europe?
[nope, 20 percent plus/minus 3-4 %.
My post referred to the introduction of VAT only in the UK where it is the same across the 4 participating countries.
The UK parliament were clever enough to avoid consumers cursing the government every time they were handed a bill for X.99 GBP plus VAT
Well if there were 60 United States..... ;)
Canadian pricing is pretty rough both unlocked and on contract. Guess I'm sticking to the z30 for the time being.

Too much for me... Add $128.00 to $799.00 for taxes
But taxes are only 13%... Well in Ontario

And I thought Ontario was bad.
holy sh1t....A good thing that I moved out from there....
