I just got my first BlackBerry Android device, a pristine Priv. I've added my Google account and added an email account, but nothing else.

I've owned a few Android devices in my time, but never a BlackBerry Android. What are some of your most useful apps when it comes to file managers? Favorite browser? I'm looking to replicate the BB10 experience as much as practical.

First off, setup the Hub. The Asus File Manager is clean and works well. You can look into the Moonrise and Sunrise icon packs to spice things up. Both packs have icons for the Blackberry apps. If you really want to emulate BB10, set the middle swipe shortcut to launch the Launcher. This will in essence return you to the homescreen whenever you swipe up from the home button. Not a necessity but it works for people missing the swipe up gesture to exit apps.

FX File Explorer, though there's quite a few other good options.
Opera is by far the best Android (mobile in general) browser IMO, since it's the only one which still has text wrapping and can be set to always open desktop sites.

I was never one to use many keyboard shortcuts, so I switched to Nova Launcher Prime and use the Holee icon pack. Nova gives you plenty of gestures, plus the ability to have a clean home screen so the glory of your wallpaper can shine thru.

Just remember to actually close apps when you a done using them. Don't leave them in your rolodex. I would encourage you to download Pulse as your messenging app. You can also have it loaded on your computer and it makes it easy to insert emoji or giphs or other images to conversations.

I like File Commander as a file manager. Chrome and Firefox are the two browsers that I prefer. The blackberry android experience has some similarities to BB10. The Productivity tab reminds me of the peek and flow. Also I have set the apps when you swipe up from the home button to hub. That kind of makes me feel like I am still using BB10 also. You can set it to activate 3 of your favorite apps.

Also I have set the location to device only because I only use it for GPS. I also turn off Bluetooth and wifi scanning. That will help save battery life.

Thanks for the suggestions, everybody. I will definitely give these a try tonight.

I'm also looking for a great rss reader. I am a big fan of gNewsReader on BB10.

If you haven't already downloaded a compass app you may be interested in this one. Its free, there are no ads, is easy to use and works as it should.

The dev also has a spirit level app, which I paid for and which is also very good. I paid cos I wanted to support the dev. 😀

Also, Keyboard Browser is a browser that includes a lot of the features that the bb10 browser has:

The dev is very receptive, and there are excellent reviews. Here's the thread:

The adds in Keyboard Browser are really small. If they bother you, all you do is pay for the pro version. It's only $1.99.

I'm looking for a way to replicate the swipe up gesture to return to the app drawer. Does anyone know how to do that with the BlackBerry launcher?

You can put BlackBerry Launcher as the shortcut on swipe up from home button. Though I don't really see how would that be simpler than just pressing that same button.

I think it's now under the name Icon Pack 10. All icons are the legit BB10 icons.

Icon Pack 10 is awesome. Too bad it doesn't work with BlackBerry launcher.

Is there any app that replicates the Story Maker experience? I'm one of the few who actually uses and enjoys it.

It should work with BlackBerry Launcher just fine. While you can't change individual icons, you can set the pack as a whole. If you long press on an open space on your home screen, select icon packs, does it not show as an option?
