This is a real ad. On Instagram. They love using lots of fonts I'll give them that much. Don't know what that picture is either.

I'm a BlackBerry user (Z30) and on my 3rd BB phone now. Never used another smartphone. When my contract is over, and possibly sooner, I want to switch over to the Priv. In regards to the subject of this post, I don't have the same angry reaction that others are posting. It's OK with me. As a note aside, I have a business degree, have studied marketing, and realize that BB is not very sophisticated when it comes to promoting their products in major markets. Without the advantage of working on the inside, I can only surmise, but my gut feeling is that they simply don't have the budget $$$ to advertise properly. And until they make more revenue, they probably never will. In conclusion, these images were probably not crafted to appeal to die-hard BB fans. They are designed to appeal to non-BB users (buy an Android that finally has security), and BB users that have left the fold (get the apps you desperately want and the keyboard you loved). So I get it. I'm not mad at all. And I hope it is good success. And, I want one...

In the post WWII world of advertising the emphasis on products has changed from how good a product is to how good a product will make you look. The ad campaign for the Priv may work.

Despite the ridiculous images and marketing, why on earth didn't they give the Z30 and Passport this Marketing Effort? BB10 is far superior in every single respect, yet it received nothing.

Are ppl ever happy? seriously. We moan because they don't advertise then when they do its all wrong. When JC is signing your check , make or dont make any ad you want. Till then, do YOUR job to make the finance to purchase the poorly or greatly advertised Priv, or not.

It's not identical, but it's the same concept: a zen garden with rock formations.

Now, how that's supposed to evoke privacy is something else altogether.

I sure am interested in this phone for being someone who has no intention of buying one in the foreseeable future. Ive been checking to see whats on yahoo tech home, what comes up if i just do a DUCK-search on "BlackBerry." Hard to find anything obvious to the average outsider that there is a new phone out there.

So an ad without the word 'Priv' included is a bit of an oversight.

I'm a tech founder of a software company and have grown to appreciate the difficulties with Marketing.

From what I've learned from my Marketing manager, you have to pick one message and hammer it home - even if your product can do 100 things, you still need to pick just one and hammer the hell out of it!

I actually think they're hammering the privacy thing hard here. Whether it works, at least they've shown they're committed to it.

And this explains the horror ad and the tank top dude?

Why don't they highlight privacy and productivity altogether, and do it differently. Privacy is more for high end market. For general consumers productivity is more appealing.

People wants to be productive, regardless we spent more time on social media when we hold our phone

It's meant, I believe, to present the peace of mind, the Zen, of knowing you are protected, you have privacy and security; you can focus on your mindful tasks while BlackBerry secures your device.

    That's my take on it
