If it's a marketing scheme.... they've taken it too far by making it official.

I cried a little when they announced it.

I can't remember who first suggested this on the CrackBerry forums, but someone suggested they call it the Priv SE. That is genius wordplay (at least in English) and would turn a sow's ear into a silk purse, imho.

Maybe everyone who gets one should just say to their friends "This is the Special Edition version, the Priv SE"...

EDIT: I think it was user TheBirdDog who first coined it here: http://forums.crackberry.com/blackbe...l#post11947449

Hmm, as right as you maybe. Wouldn't BlackBerry look worse if 'later' they changed the name? It could be seen as, "BlackBerry change the name of its new device, Priv, due to mounting media and consumer pressure..."

I have a feeling this is all false. Venice is a hit. What better way to spark the chatter to a new level than to give it a temporary horrendous name.

Think about it. EVERYBODY on the web is going nuts commenting or creating new posts about the name.

Diverse yourself from the rest. Build hype. Increase the hype by alarming the community with Priv. Reveal.

They aren't going to change the name. It's the BlackBerry Priv, and that's what it's going to be from now on, regardless of what the majority of this community wants. Time to get used to the name, imo.

Let's all deal with it and move on.

Thing that gets me is if Priv is suppose to be short for private. But on Android you can't adjust permissions until marshmallow., it's like false advertising lol

Yes, this may well end up in the OED as example under the definition of "irony".
