We know the Priv was released as an Android 5 device and existing devices were then updated to Android 6. My question is, why doesn't BlackBerry update the Priv with Android 7+ or higher? Is it a hardware issue, a marketing issue or some other issue?

It's been EOL for a year. No interest.

The thing I don't understand is why not push out the latest version of Android to all devices that are made to run Android. Can the Priv not handle Android 7 or 8? Does Blackberry need to push out specific versions of Android for the Priv, Motion, KeyOne etc.

Builds are specific per device, yes.

BlackBerry (of old) promised 2 years of security updates for PRIV, DTEK50, and DTEK60. They got them. It's over.

BlackBerry Mobile (TCL) promises 3 years of patches, and at least 1 letter upgrade for their devices (KEYᵒⁿᵉ, Motion, KEY² and KEY² LE).

On another note, I would doubt the Priv's custom component suppliers even have Nougat drivers.

That makes more sense, thanks conite. When you say 1 letter upgrade you mean Android 6->7, Android 7->8, Android 8->9 etc ?

Yes. Makes more sense when you use the names. M to N, N to O, etc.

Basically, it makes more sense to get a KEY2/LE at this point if being up to date matters more to you than having a 5.4" AMOLED display.
