Why does it mean that the Priv will get android M? Most of the phones on that list hasn't gotten the update yet.

The only exception is the nexus.

The Samsung galaxy series will not be getting android M until next year.

That doesnt mean it is not getting it just because it does not say when.

People on this forum read too much into things.

bottom left corner it says "latest Nexus flagship devices will be the first". so no doubt on who gets it first.
Also what if the partnership between BB and Google is that strong to have Android M loaded while its released??

I think Priv will have all the updates .. bcz it might be a device whose price is more than of the price of samsung galaxy edge + . . as becoming the most highest priced device.. its google's job to give priv the updates ..

How is it Google's job to give Priv the updates? They have no obligation to help a competitor update its OS, especially when it isn't stock.

Classic CB jumping to conclusions. Of course Priv will get Marshmallow at some point, just like other popular recent Android models, doesn't mean it will launch with it.

lol it just states "phones coming out with android". The "info" on it is all over the place and has no focus, but it doesn't say Priv and the new Android software in one sentence or lined under each other.

    NEXT!

As I understand it Android M is pretty much required for Priv to control Priviledge from Apps. So why are we having this discussion? The only discussion worth having is when is it coming out. since it will have to play well with Marshmellow and what is comming out hub peak flow etc. etc.

It can't seriously be a suprise to anyone that it will have the latest Android main version when launched.

No, it doesn't mean anything. It's just an infographic thrown together to show the history of Android.

You can use App Ops in Lollipop, see BlackPhone and Cyanogen Privacy Guard. Marshmallow adds an API for devs and a UI that consumers can use and not bork their apps but the base code for granular permissions has existed for awhile now.

I think since this is Blackberry's only android device they should be pushing out those updates pretty quick.

It's a shame when I see Samsung, HTC and even Motorola abandoning certain devices and deciding not to push out updates.

My Sony z3 compact came with Kit Kat, received lollipop a few months later and they just announced that its also getting Marshmallow in the near future.

I think if blackberry can push those updates in timely manner, people would love them for it.

This (M including privacy controls stock).

I've greatly struggled with purchasing this device because of the idiotic name chosen. My family backed out... have 3 of them all using BB10 now ready to upgrade day one but won't because of the name alone (who wants a phone called a priv?). Only way I see this changing is if this device becomes common (something BlackBerry hasn't had in a while) or a strong marketing effort (something Chen will not spend money on). We'll see. Anyway...

As a BlackBerry fan, I love the hardware and actually don't mind Android as I came from Android prior to the Z10 launch. I really, really hope that this device comes out with Android M. It would be a huge disappointment for BlackBerry to release a possible game changing device for the company and stock on an "old" version of Android with M being so close now. May not mean as much to consumers, but techies and reviewers will surely take notice of M.

If it's not released with the latest Android, maybe I'm out as well. Still on the fence as of now. Trying not to derail this thread since the name priv just killed the device for me and trying to get that excitement for it back, but besides that... BlackBerry has shown the Slider way back in March if I remember correctly?

It could have been fine running on Lollipop if released sooner, but now we are getting into transition time for Android and with this device taking so long from the time the mock up was shown until actually being released, I'd be pretty surprised if it doesn't release with M. Maybe not surprised, but more angry again after the name debacle.

Since privacy is supposedly the primary selling point with the keyboard being a differentiating factor, M addresses PRIVACY (not necessarily security); especially app permissions which have been a huge reason I've avoided many Android app installs on my current BlackBerry devices.

Having app permission controls are a huge selling point for those that care about privacy. Many apps have no reason to access my files or even my microphone. Since BlackBerry took there time with this device (so it seems); I believe Android M should definitely be the release software.

It does seem that BlackBerry is a bit stuck right now as BB10 sales drop off a cliff needing to release this phone ASAP. Chen is pulling off some licensing deals, etc. but admitted himself that EMM/MDM may not be the huge boost he originally thought. It will be interesting how this situation is played.

Go with a less private software solution from Google that is ready, or be one of the first device manufacturers to release a device focused on privacy coinciding with Google's intents with M to increase privacy. Hmm...
