Perhaps the issue is like running a new car dealership and the 2016 models have started to trickle in and you still have a lot full of the 2015's to sell. You don't want to have your big new model events nor send out your fliers because as soon as you do you turn all of your 2015 into "last year's model."

A big Priv event will put the spotlight on the new Android OS direction and have people wondering about the future of BB10. Given that this is a slider, an Android, and they might not have produced that many, they may have decided to do a truly soft launch and not go on CNBC or whatever.

Most people think BlackBerry only has last year's model anyway and they have thought that for years now. So BlackBerry could actually try advertising for a change or continue with the status quo of not bothering to advertise each new product in any meaningful way. So far, they are choosing the latter.

Lack of advertising is going to kill this phone. It's due out in a couple of weeks and your average consumer (and many carrier employees) STILL never heard of it....just yesterday i saw a very cool new nexus commercial on prime time tv that even made ME say impressive.

Not advertising this phone properly makes people think that the company doesn't want you to know about it and / or are embarrassed by it... because you know, who wants to showcase a 2mp front camera these days when just about every new phone coming out has a 5mp?

I've half-joked that it's as if Chen is merely doing this to "go through the motions" and fulfill some contract obligation, like he has to check off the "Tried selling an Android phone" box before he can disband the phones division. Tin-foil-hat stuff I know, but it fits.
