How long might this take to adress this issue? I have the same problem. I always tapped the "sym"-Key, then the symbol I wanted to use and the on-screen Symbol-Keyboard disappeared and I was able to continue writing. Now I have to press the "sym"-Key again two times to get back to writing. Destroys the work-flow when replying to a lot of e-mails.

Yep renders the pkb pretty much useless for typing German. Unfortunately at a time when I need it the most for responding to requests almost all around the clock.

Confirmed issue, tried rolling back to 6.0.1 stock version:

    Current:
    - Tap Sym (do not hold) -> Keyboard displays
    - Press corresponding symbol -> Keyboard remains, entered symbol

    Prior:
    - Tap Sym (do not hold) -> Keyboard displays
    - Press corresponding symbol -> Keyboard disappears, entered symbol

Basically the problem is single tap SYM became Sym-lock rather than like Alt where it reverts to regular text. This is annoying for single handed use.

Issue also occurs if you swipe down. Keyboard remains in SYM mode after swiping down and pressing corresponding key.

Actually it was my friend with a KEYone who noticed it first lol. BlackBerry does not give a flying crap about us Priv peasants anymore.

PS: BlackBerry Mobile has nothing to do with this, it's not a hardware problem.

Oh I thought BlackBerry Mobile is the devs (Android hacking and app development) and TCL is hardware, marketing and distribution.
Anyway, for "not giving a flying crap" they've been pretty quick in letting us know they're looking into it and in actually fixing it, in my opinion. It's been their devs who were listening and asking here to come up with the current solution for umlauts in the first place and the same goes for a lot of features added or improved long after device launch (in my case the PRIV). So yeah, wherever that department is located and whatever its name is: I am happy with how they're taking care. My wife not so much though: still waiting for picture password on her Dtek50.

Same here, symbol layout won't disappear after choosing a character to insert.

Got this problem yesterday on my Keyone after updating to AAM481. Installed version of BB keyboard is 2.7.1.11693 .

@LiamQ Please fix this. It's a pain in the... lower back... to write in many languages.

The other thing I noticed after yesterday's update is that if I'm in the middle of the word, I can keep sym pressed and choose the character to insert. But only if I'm in the middle of the word, the sym layout will go away when I let go of of the sym key. If I'm in the beginning of a word, it won't go away. The third thing I noticed: I cannot insert little umlauts using the sym layout in the beginning of a word. It'll always insert the capital one, no matter to which state I toggle the shift thingy.

Thx for the warning, so I will skip this V.2.7.1.11693 of BlackBerry Keyboard as the new functions I saw in beta reports can't outweight the loss of fluent Umlaut typing. Hope it won't be a hit-and-miss game with future keyboard updates.

My 2.7.0.11755 on PRIV AAM489 works perfectly (word start uppercase/lowercase and middle) for now. Perhaps I have to start backing up BlackBerry App versions locally before updating so I can roll back.

I have the latest updates on my Priv and no issues at all, so I guess it currently only happens on the KeyOne. After I updated the KeyOne with July update I had this problem.

    Keyboard update just now.

Keyboard Extensions can now be fully disabled.

Now just need an option to meet midway, where it can default off in Chrome address bar, and be activated via the three dots in the PKB.

So as it seems the stable August HUB+ Suite updates arrive soon (+Service is now in Play) can anyone confirm that custom symbol layout will disappear after entering SYM+[letter] together (as it was fixed in 2.7.0.x) in a recent 3.x keyboard beta?

I will really skip those 3.x updates if it is not fixed.

Perhaps even @LiamQ could comment on it, it is really important to Umlaut/Accent-Users.

Yes I have the latest firmware and I still have issues with the sym key. (KeyOne)

I despise this new 'sticky' sym key. Very inconvenient for me as I use åäö a lot.
I cant think of an instance where Id like the sym key to be active for more than one symbol? Can you??

I didn't mean firmware but Keyboard app betaversion.

And yes perhaps [ and ] but that would be OK if you press a single SYM release the sym finger and choose then [letter of wish] but with SYM+letter together it should close right afterwards.

So there are several Umlaut users on this thread, how is the custom SYM working on bb Keyboard release version 3.0.0.12459 (22.8.2017)? Have they fixed it since beta again or is it still stickly like others reported (https://forums.crackberry.com/showth...1#post12990889)

And which device are you using?

I'm still afraid of updating with my PRIV and lose fluent Umlaut input.

And is the the Captital-Umlaut-Symbolbug also fixed after pressing SHIFT+SYM+Letter this seemed also a bug in recent betas: https://forums.crackberry.com/showthread.php?t=1116004&p=13002104&viewfull=1#pos t13002104

It really feels like they are fixing/breaking the same issue over and over again.
