I was reading this review at gsmarena
BlackBerry Priv review: Privilege granted - page 3 - GSMArena.com

We have come to associate Super AMOLED panels with absolute blacks and infinite levels of contrast and that fits with the nature of the technology itself. Still, with the Priv, we didn't actually manage to get an absolute black to display. Perhaps it is some intentional software trick or a controller bug, but the best we could do is 0.01 nits on at 50% brightness and 0.02 at full blast.
Is this a bug or not? It's very obvious whether blacks are truly off when looking at the screen at night.

Does anyone notice this compared to their other AMOLED phones?

Mine goes completely black, sometime it fools me into thinking it's off.

Very difficult to say anything with the naked eye. But I had also read this review and they clearly stated, the priv is not able to harness the Amoled screen

It can look black during the day but have you tried looking at a black wallpaper at night?

I made a 2560 x 1440 black image and sat with all the lights off under 4 blankets. I made the black image full screen and let my eyes adjust to the darkness. It was solid black, all pixels off. I saw now difference each time I turned the screen off while the black image was foll screen. It was the same with the Z30. The pixels actually turn off.
FF22 and Joao Oliveira like this.

I think the easiest way to test this out is by leaving that black wallpaper on the screen, and leave it overnight with the screen on, then see how the battery usage for the screen is over that long period of time. If it only consumes tiny-whiny amount of battery, I'd say it is good enough and ignore the fact that it is not completely off with absolute black.

    Make sense?
