Yep they asked for an iPhone killer, and got probably BlackBerry's worst device ever as per most people. Well played BlackBerry.

BlackBerry OS 10 is absolutely sustainable. It is the combination of BlackBerry handsets and OS 10 that just might not be sustainable. BlackBerry OS10 or QNX which is very similar will be powering 100 million vehicle infotainment systems in the next few years. The OS will be out there whether it is embedded into devices consumers use indirectly or on handsets they choose to use directly. Either way QNX and BlackBerry OS 10 will both be around for a long time.

The problem is that iOS and Android have all these productivity apps (that usually have more features than BB10) PLUS other apps. You never know when you might need a certain app. For iOS and Android, the app will always be thee if you need it.
Exactly.
BlackBerry 10 is not QNX
If the version of the Storm that was originally released was today's Z30 (even at version 10.2.1) there would be no such thing as a BB Slider powered by Android. The marketshare would at least be at 10% if not more. But nnoooooo..... RIM couldn't even begin to have the appropriate foresight to start R&D'ing the BB10 prior to 2007. They got fat and rested on their laurels. And here we are today.....
Ya know, (unrelated to this thread), every time I hear about Apple and "force touch" all I think of is the BlackBerry Storm and how RIM was on the right track 1st, just didn't implement it well.
As they say, Apple has never invented anything. Just taken already available products and made them better.
So I guess my point is that we need a BlackBerry version on a Z50 that will never come.
(need might be a strong word here, but it would be cool)

Lol I hope you seriously don't think force touch and the storm have anything in common....
Fook the Google overlords!

Wasn't the storm literally a giant button under the screen? I remember reading a review that it was a pain when it came to typing since you had to push down every time you had to press on a letter. So you'd actually type slower and overall it just wasn't that great.

Android has a ton of productivity apps.
I didn't like the stock calendar so I downloaded a better one.
I downloaded an app that reads back any text I copy plus it also reads pdf files and books. (plus there many different voices you can download. British, Australian, etc)
There's a running app that plays songs at a set beats per minute so it helps with you're running.
There's positive habit building apps and there's even an app to help you with anxiety (I have anxiety) so this helps me a lot.
There some decent journal/diary apps if you're into that.
I downloaded an alarm clock radio app that streams radio stations from around the world. Waking up to a radio station in Ireland is just cool lol.
I can go on and on about productivity apps for Android but to tell you the truth I think iOS has more of a variety plus their apps seem to be a bit more polished up.

Agreed.
I'd also agree that iOS has more polished apps overall. The iOS-Android quality gap is shrinking though.
Exactly! Storm 1 had 1 pressure sensitive button in the middle of the screen. People complained that the screen was wobbly. So storm 2 had 4 or five pressure sensitive buttons. I know one in each corner and I think one in the center, but I'm not sure with the center. BlackBerry's name was 'sure press '. Apples name is 'peek and pop', where a little pressure brings up a pop up, you select it and press in to select. BlackBerry could have done the same with the storm 2, a little pressure could bring up a menu, you select, and then press. But BlackBerry only did you highlight then press. Since the screen basically free floated, BlackBerry could have done the scale thing too. So yeah, Apple is doing something different with it, but still the same concept.

Yup. Androids quality control use to be just awful though. They use to have a nazi themes you could download off their play store years ago. I think that's where apple does a better job. They're a bit more strict with their apps and quality control

If BlackBerry goes Android, it won't be a smartphone platform, anymore. You need to stop talking about it in terms of competing in the platform race with players like Apple, Microsoft, Google, Jolla, Ubuntu and Mozilla.
If BlackBerry sells 40 million Android sliders, it won't help the BlackBerry platform's marketshare, it will help Google/Android's marketshare.
If BlackBerry developers make apps for the Android Slider, it won't build BlackBerry's ecosystem, it'll build Google/Android's ecosystem.
BlackBerry will just be a device maker and you should refer to them in competition with companies like LG, Huwai, OnePlus, Sony, HTC, Motorola, etc. I leave Samsung out of that list because they have been developing a platform, as well.
I know you've long valued Chen / Silver Lake over BlackBerry and you have a kind of contempt for BlackBerry as a platform or as anything more than a brand put on plastic to try to move devices or sell mid-tier enterprise software licenses, but you don't get to talk about BlackBerry continuing to be a platform while cheering it's move to being another Android OEM. That's either analytically soft or unsound.
Unless, you think BlackBerry will relaunch BlackBerry10 development and ecosystem development while also trying to sell high-end Android devices? I'm kind of hoping the hypervisor theory is true, but...

If BlackBerry goes android it won't be a smartphone?
What?????
I'm fairly sure it had to have a clickable button under the screen because BBOS wasn't built for touch....so without that click you couldn't input anything. Don't really see how you see a comparison between that and force touch but to each their own....
Thanks for the reminder, kind sir.
I'm not kidding. Looking at myself... :-)
 Leakers' gonna leak... :-)
I do, indeed I do. Not the components behind how they work but the concept.
Touch the screen and get a response. Press harder and another action happens. It's not that different from how you do it, the difference is how it works and what it does.

I get that this is far-fetched, but the OS choice thing has been suggested by a few different sources. So long as it's not an actual dual-boot Google may be okay.

Read this : http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2490954,00.asp and this : http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2490925,00.asp reviewer even gives credit to BlackBerry having it on the storm 2 in 2008 and how some of the other "innovative" apple stuff was found first on some android oem's from a couple of years ago. 2nd link kind of tells you that Apple 3d and force touch use a couple of sensors under the screen. Yes, storm 2 had 4 to 5 pressure sensitive sensors under the screen. But, Apple will do it right and make them useful features where other Oem's failed at it. Or it could backfire on them. Interesting to see where Apple takes it and for how long.

Not that it would have a made a great differenence but Verizon also gave BlackBerry an unreasonable time line as well. Something like a year to build the Storm from scratch. Design and build.

I love the Venice and that I will be able to get any app,but I still want to have the hub, My question is will the Venice have Google Play Services built in,or will it just have the Play Store and We have to deal with some apps working because we still need Google Play Service. Anyone Know?
Posted via CB10
It's full on Android, so Google play and services will be there. BlackBerry experience suite (I think that's the name) will bring the hub, contacts, BBM, blend, etc to the device. We won't really know how it all works until we get an official release from BlackBerry and a true hands on with all the BlackBerry add ons. I've been hearing in the forums sometime next week for the unveiling. It will not be bb10, or qnx or hypervisor, just full on Android.
