Currently in Toronto for a while. I used a rogers email to register my interest 2-3 weeks ago when the BB page went up. No response since then.

Used to be a time where you could game them and make money. Back then I got the super 6GB plan with a stack of credits from Bell and a S3 for cheap to sell on retention.

But these days as a result of the new wireless code, the carriers took it as an opportunity to drastically increase prices, when the intent was to split out the subsidy part from the monthly part.

Agree, even if it is 799 they should do the standard $500 subsidy making it $299. Or at least $349 matching the s6 edge.

Not everything needs to be done Samsung or apple style. BlackBerry just doesn't have the 1 billions dollars to launch and market like apple does.

If you want to sell 5 million phones, you have to at least do it "Lemonade Stand" style.

Exactly...most people don't watch or read online ads (at least I don't anyway). They put all of this money into manufacturing the devices, surely they could do something good with marketing. I still think they should have not even made the Leap, and used that money to market the Passport...

It's purportedly $799 from Rogers and that's fair in my books. I would even pay more for this phone. Can't wait longer.

I agree. They could of gotten a bunch of hype by doing some kind of reveal, they already have the hype but they could of gotten more people excited, maybe they could of shown the device and show how easy it is to migrate "stuff" from BB10/other ecosystems onto it, and shown that the learning curve isn't as big as one would think and that this is still a secure device.

If they're advertising in the enterprise space like they did with the legacy BB5 which is great, maybe that niche market may appear to the younger crowd like it did back in '06 when every teenager started getting a BlackBerry because it was the "cool" thing to do. Mind you the craze was over BBM, not android, but one could hope...

This device may actually be the device I need to finally get accustomed to the on-screen kb after a while.

Picking this up on day one. Wonder if a gel style case can be made for this device even though it's a slider. I'd like to showcase that carbon fiber on that back. Sexy af.

With CrackBerry one of my "sites".... I learned long ago how to block online ads.

Marketing is hugely important... but 1st you need a product that gives marketing something to work with. Passport had limited appeal both in form factor and in App availability. Now if SNAP or Cobalt's solution could have been marketed along with it, that might have been different... but marketing HACKS isn't something a security company would be wise to do.

Have to hope that the marketing will start at some point after the official launch....

Chen might be using the pre-order to gauge demand and as a test of just how much he should commit to the PRIV.

dc2000 suggested contract that includes a price gouge by Robbers. No friggin way it makes sense if the off-contract is $799.

Yep, definitely price gouging. The 16GB iPhone 6s is the same two-year price at Rogers, but an extra $100 off-contract. Doesn't make much sense.

Hmm, I'll have to check my options then. Let's see what Telus and Bell have it at. Telus usually has better pricing on BlackBerry devices.
