Don't even see what the big fuss is about, just make a dummy account that's what I do.
Most people here who complain about privacy, actually do not even know what they are talking about.
The major difference which you purposely ignore is that doing so is a major part of the google business plan and revenue source by design. And ignoring or pretending that there is no difference in degree does not magically make it true.
When I saw the root scene, I thought of CB.
But yep, it was Google, down to the choice of board chairman.
Cool.
Nothing to ignore. Anyone with half a brain and a pulse knows Google's business plan.
I simply believe that every other affiliated corporation is into the same, with varying degrees of success.
Some seem to believe that other companies are less dangerous because they didn't start as search/advertising companies. I tend to treat them all the same. Information is gold, and it would be ludicrous to assume that some companies respect my privacy more than others, especially when their TOSes say otherwise.
In simple prose, they all collect info, and I treat all systems like they do. I have no problem with others assigning risk values to commercial entities. I don't.
I tend to agree.
My rule of the thumb: If a service/product is free over the Internet, YOU actually are the product.

Completely switched to MS accounts and removed my Google account.

This ignores the entire open source sector, Linux, LibreOffice, OpenStreetMap, Wikipedia and tons more.
I love when folks tell me they are something something for free from any company wether it's on the internet or not, as a businessperson myself if you honestly think you can give away products and/or services for free you will quickly find yourself on the outside looking in. Somebody is paying for those freebies one way or another.
Indeed, but these are collaborative; being "the product" is not limiting to the "mercantile dark side" ;)
In the context of the thread, I was referring to free websites, services and apps and their underlying T&Cs and/or the superabundant ads, cookies and so on.
My words, in proper English ;)
Pretty good article by Walt Mossberg on the subject of online advertising (he's advocating for reform in the industry)
Note: this is on the Verge so if you don't visit the Verge on principle, don't click. Basically, he says the system is broken and doesn't deliver on the promise of better personalization and doesn't allow for opt out and weighs down the browser with unnecessary code, and at this point it is fundamentally flawed.
Mossberg: The real trouble with web ads | The Verge
Absolutely!
It's scary just how most of Earths "higher Intelligence" aren't!
Even if you have nothing to hide, goog and the like are already making money off you. You have no control over that. Ad Choices? What a joke. You spend a ton of time opting out only to have to do it every few weeks. They even get data from you from your opting out.
The internet has been taken over like when the iron curtain fell and a few oligarchs jumped in and became defacto dictators.
Well, good luck.

Duckduckgo + OpenBSD + LuminaDE + tor might help

No it is not OK. I would happily give them the measurements of my PRIV for their perusal, however.

If you ever plan to run for office you should stop visiting those porn sites. Google knows everything.

Well... when you put it THAT way, Let's consider the kind of people that have been elected to office in years past.
We've had a playboy, an actor, A crook, A peanut farmer, A musician, A Comedian or two, A complete Moron....
It's time we got a Porn star in office. You can bet some of those conservatives would change side in a heartbeat.
You lost me at the second "something!" (LOL)
But, it's no different "as seen on TV." So it MUST be true!!!;)
Simple answer: NO

Google only tracks every move you make if you let it to. Just disable those features on the google account control panel.

Chances are, Priv or no Priv, Google already knows everything about you...
That's right... Oh wait... You don't ever email anyone who uses google services? Never use any websites that have google ads?
Even better: Google is able to track much more even without you have a Google account or the use of the Google Search. If they really do it I can't prove but they can. The keyword is "Google Safe Browsing" [1] which is a technique officially related to avoid phishing attacks.
Many well known browsers send by default every (!) web request first to a Google server using Google's Safe Browsing API, Google sends back that the request is OK, and then your browser performs the request on the original server. This technique allows Google to track almost the entire web traffic on the world, every single porn website you click, every blog, every newspaper, every web mail client you use, except you manually switch this off. I'm almost sure all Android devices do this by default. OK, have firefox on Android? Firefox does. I'm not sure about the newer Opera versions, older Operas did also. (Even Safari does, if you try now to port Safari to Android ...) - The stock browser on BB10 doesn't until now, like most 3rd party BB browsers.
[1] Some say this technique is secure and guaranties privacy because the check uses only hashes. - No, it's not, not at all. 1) you need a very good hash, a hash which has to be very precise to mean a concrete web page without any doubt, a hash which is as good as the address of the website itsself, because you don't want to get false positives, 2) the Google Safe Browsing API allows also to check complete web addresses. It depends on the browser what it sends.
