Another bug is that watching YouTube videos on 1440p mode which is the highest we can get for our screen resolution does not work more than 5 seconds. This is the same bug as on my Nexus 10 and has not been fixed by Google during its whole span of update support. I hope this gets fixed ASAP as I hate not being able to use this phone to its full capabilities. The reception is very low bar wise and GPS is messed up as stated before. I sure hope updates fix these issues as I will probably return if not fixed within 30day period.

A bug is a bug and whether or not you can tell the difference doesn't suggest it's okay for it not to work. My LG G4 and Galaxies can all play back at 1440p so this also should be able to playback the video. Just giving inside on what needs to be addressed in case BlackBerry isn't aware. Anyone know where we can submit issues like this or is BlackBerry personnel watching these forums?

Just wanted to say 1440 works on mine. Previous poster is right it doesn't make a difference. But you're also right a bug is a bug. And I'm not positive but you could tell the difference on say a large screen so if you used cast or something wouldn't you want 1440 for that? Or does it not matter when casting?

I guess you don't have a 1440 or 4k screen. When I switch back and forth between 1080p and 1440p I can tell a pretty big difference.. Even better is comparing 720p to 1440p, plus with YouTube you aren't just gaining more pixels, the higher resolution YouTube videos are not compressed nearly as much.

1440p is like having four 720p screens on your phone screen split into 4 equal squares, on 720p mode it's just taking one of those boxes and stretching it across the whole screen. good way to think about it. I was appreciating how much difference there is between my note 2 which is 720p, and a 1440p phone with the same size screen. Mark my words, 4K will soon be the default resolution for most flagship phones, tv's, and monitors within a couple of years. The new Sony phone is 4K btw.

Same issue some users including myself have with the LG v10. 1440 YouTube vids stop playing after a certain amount of time approximately 20 second or less. But audio still going...

your right my friend was showing off his priv. I was comparing my note 5 1440p playback on a youtube video and his video feed froze with the audio still going maybe 20sec in and if you moved forward to a further time it would freeze the video again while mine played normally. Side note, also compared the brightness and it is no where near as bright as note 5 is on full brightness

The BlackBerry probably had auto brightness on?

I was using the Priv and it was not on auto brightness and the slider all the way to the right. Big difference in my opinion between the phones next to each other

In as 27inch monitor you can't "tell a pretty big difference" (some difference yes), let alone in a phone... Placebo effect is what you're having.

There would only be a good difference if the content at 1440p was much higher bitrate than 1080p.

4K on phones is useless unless you're using VR.^

I do not use YouTube often. I want to test if my Priv also freezes. How do you choose the resolution on mobile? I do not think I have seen that option before (I use Firefox for android).

Also, can anyone link a YouTube vid with 1440 resolution to test?

I clicked on the Sony Xperia vid linked above, hit request desktop version to choose the resolution of the vid (no clue how to do that in the mobile version) and it played for over 1 min on both 1440 and 4k without losing video.

I did that on Firefox. Not sure if the problem is in chrome or somewhere else.

(Just realized the op was from 2 months ago... maybe this was fixed already...)

1440p on youtube works for me.

BTW, I can tell a pretty big difference between 1080p and 1440p on a 27" monitor. a 24" not so much, and on a 5" smartphone, unless they were side by side, I don't think I would be able to tell the difference.

There's a bug on YouTube you have to press or select the video settings about 5 times before it saves the selection, anyone else recognise that?
