It's taking a long time to shut down after an auto power off .... I'll post after checking ....

I believe you've gone beyond, but don't short circuit the automatic process. I kind of read the prompt (reboot or restart) as one for me to do which is what screwed it up. It just takes quite a bit of time when NOTHING appears to be happening.

But glad changing the time/date worked.

How do I get notified re security updates?

You might get a notice (the pull down from top and expand upward to see notifications) that one is pending or you look for it the same way you just did.
