The only think I can think of is to contact your cellular carrier. They used the IMEI number to activate the phone on their network. I am sure you will be asked to prove ownership.

As long as you had a sim card in the phone and used the phone on the network, your service provide will have the imei number in their equipment history, just call them and authenticate your account, they should be able to provide it to you.

I have been through similar experience with my old iPhone 4 and I called my cellular provider and guess what it was not on there system because I didn't buy the phone from theme. Anyway, you have to find the box or receipt

Have you tried using https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager to track down your phone? Only caveat is that the device's Location Access has to be turned on, and have a data/wifi connection active.

Every call you make will show in in your usage history, they can look at a call you made and it will show the Sim and Imei that were involved in the call, if they didn't find it, it just means the person didn't know where to look, ask for a manager, they will find it.
