Second carrier in Canada, Telus, (semi-)confirmed the CAD 799 price. Starting to think if this was part of a plan to push people to get it on the carriers, even for outright.

Meanwhile I have huge street creds, and all the cool chicks at the bar. (bought today at 799 CDN)
Are all those cool chicks named Rosie?

Why does this phone have to be cheaper than the phones listed above? Here in Canada you can buy iPhone for $1000 and no one bats an eye. $750 for a BlackBerry and everyone loses their mind. Suck it up and pay the price for an excellent phone. If it is too expensive for you then get the phones they offer for free and are 3 years old.

I think this was a carrier requirement, so they could have the captive audience.

Untrue. Passport launched at 699 on ShopBB with an intro offer of 100 off. Rogers was 699, Bell and Telus both 749.

I am going to see if an unlocked version is going to be offered on the Blackberry website in the morning.

Based on the speculation, if the device is between 600-700 US, I am going for it. Now it's wait and see.

So there are two different questions there. Would I pay more for a Priv than I've paid for an iPhone? Yes, because I think it will be a good phone for me and worth that price. And, to be honest, I would expense the thing anyway.

But looking at it from the perspective of BB's survival, I think they have to try to make this phone cheaper than the iPhone, because that's the only way it will sell 5M units IMO. Their brand isn't valuable enough for this phone to sell for so much.
