I want to be absolutely sure that the slider won't get all loose and insecure after a while. Imagine trying to type while the phone keeps closing up. Not fun.

If it's built anything like the late Torch, I wouldn't be too worried!

If it's built like the Torch was I'm going to use it as a WMD. The Torch was unstoppable.

Yes, and you can name a million other things that everyone wants to be absolutely sure will not happen: e.g. double typing, paint not coming off, no smoke escaping from under the buttons and so on.......

If anything does happen to the slide function will be one expensive hard job to fix.

the slide mechanism isn't secure at all. It's vulnerable, I hear people can hack into it due to the lack of security and then things can happen.

I hear it has a hardware root of trust. So definitely secure.

Don't worry - if it starts sliding down by itself, all you have to do is get a little stick about the right length and prop it up when necessary.

You can buy a hypervisor protector for it on ebay.
$5 from Guandong shipped. 2 weeks later.

I had a chance to play with it and seems to be innovative. It's not spring loaded and seems to be using some type of magnets to hold once the plkb is exposed. It should have very high reliability.

It's definitely going to be a potential point of failure. Let's hope BlackBerry has addressed this.

Nice. Makes my concerns about the reliability of the silder go away.

I know my dad is still using the old Torch and the screen still works great. Is the mechanism in the same way on the Priv?

Makes me think back to my Sidekick and the way that screen would swivel out with a kick. I'd pop that thing open thousands of times and stayed solid. The weak point was the stupid track wheel.

The Priv slide looks pretty good to me: a nice simple straight motion. Unless the QA is terrible (always a possibility) it should be fine.

I don't plan to buy one unless the price drops quite a bit but I'm not concerned about the slider mechanism.

In all seriousness. I hope the build quality is top match. Blackberry has a lot riding on this, I can't picture them skimping on the build quality since that could result in a lot of return and upset customers.
