Just asking for opinions on form factor and physical design of Priv?

I like what I see so far, but hard to say without seeing one in my hand. (Or even a dummy phone on display.)

Because of the keyboard and the slider, it has lot more moving parts than the average smartphone. Then there are the sharp corners and the screen that curves around the edges which makes it more vulnerable when dropped.

Not having actually held it and just from looking at the pics and guessing:

Looks like this might be the worst performing BlackBerry ever on a drop test (maybe they have some awesomely strong glass. Let's hope).
Hope I'm wrong, but it looks more like a precious piece of elegant hardware, than a workhorse device.

That being said, if it was a BB10 device, I'd be all up in there like swimwear lol.

    Bang on.

I love blackberry hardware which is one of the reasons why I keep coming back. They use good materials, things are assembled in a sturdy manner, and they don't sacrifice things like good battery life and adequate heat dissipation with absolutely mindless objectives of saving 2mm of thickness or shaving off 10g of weight.

I always like these small gadgets to be black. Black makes them look stunning. And I think Blackberry and Nokia are the best in the industry in using polycarbonate plastic. I owned a Bold 9900 and a Q10, but the lack of Apps forced me to move to Apple. After the first look at the Venice render, I know this would be my next phone.
Btw, if they will launch it with a Silver Edition like they did to Passport using metals, that would be the ultimate choice of me.

Looks modern to me. How is this Retro?

To me that Apple slab is very boring and retro. Have you seen one of the round bubble looking cars from the 50's.

So the curved-screen edges of the Priv are mindful of what?

From what I have seen, I think the design looks good and the unit looks well built. But I have been in the manufacturing sector for 30 years and until I get the device into my hands and play with it, I will based my final opinion then.

No different then a new automobile, they all look great until you get behind the wheel and take it for a spin.

Nokia is great with plastics, the best. As was Apple when they did the iPhone 5C, well made, carved not injection molded. And I bet this is a winner from BlackBerry as well.

In terms of industrial design, the thing better have plenny'a. Screen squish to keep it from shattering face down... also, better have a broom in the slider to keep out the junk&gunk... eh?

I find the curved screen gorgeous, and a design element that makes and already thick phone look a lot thinner than it really is. Blackberry has been slightly curving their bezels ever since the z30 and to me this dual curved display really takes that to the next level. It also makes the phone easier to hold.

I'd say that the mobile parts make it more resistant to falling because the energy will dissipate in the movement of the mobile parts instead of the core solid parts like screen and motherboard.
