200 K, if lucky... I'm basing it on the lack of carrier knowledge - "no one knows when it's coming".

75,000-100,000. Not a chance it's more than that at the high price, limited carrier availability and poor marketing.

While Beard wouldn't provide presales figures, he said advance orders for the Priv have been "much'' better than the Passport, Classic and Leap devices.

    a) Well, just looking at the number of people on this forum alone that have posted in the Priv giveaway post on the main page tells me that a lot of BlackBerry folks are willing to try Android (including me). As of this post, it hit past 1500 comments since it went up 2 hours ago. Not a perfect metric, of course, but it does mean there is quite a bit of interest right here.

    b) Samsung seems to do well with some of their $700+ android phones.

As to the actual number? Who knows. I can't begin to guess these things.
    a) Getting a phone for free is different from spending $700+ on a phone, most of them don't need. Whoever that sees the post, will comment on it, so we cannot conclude anything from it.

    b) Samsung is the global leader of android smartphones. Rest of the android smartphone makers are not generating good profit, and most of them are still under loss. Don't talk about BlackBerry then .

You can get the phone for $250 on contract. Not everyone is going to buy this phone outright, relax.

250-300k at launch with a million per quarter sustained. PRIV will outsell all currently manufactured BB10 devices put together but thats not a high bar these days.

Maybe as high as 40,000 - that 200,000 passports was for purchase orders to the channel not to end users. This doesn't have particularly high availability so that will add as a barrier to higher number - plus virtually no marketing to speak of and search traffic is low for an android device.

If it hits some of the numbers some of you are talking about - we'd know in days of release because they will rush out a press release.

Not a clairvoyant, of course, but I hope enough to keep BlackBerry in business. Honestly, I hate the move to Android, but will support BlackBerry nonetheless because not to do so is certain death. After that, it will be Android, iPhone or Windows anyway. Without my physical keyboard, I will be lost. I hate to see the writing on the wall, but obviously BlackBerry sees the same, or it wouldn't be turning in the present direction.
