Would love a Priv, just wondering how long the update will last as compared to Dtek 50 or 60?

The specs for all these devices are comparable, and in time they will all be updated with Nougat, so if you want a Priv, then I would say get one.

I think even "as is" the PRIV will work for years to come.

Updates... that's a wild guess at this point.

Typically, devices last 2 years of somewhat frequent updates. Seeing how most devices aren't even on nouget yet I think it's safe to say it has at least nouget and one beyond.

That's difficult to say. The PRIV is able to support Android N and I'm sure it will have enough power to support Android O.

Just depends on BlackBerry and how long they want to support it. I would say if the DTEK50 gets the update, PRIV should get the update to.

I just bought one because I'm assuming it'll be good for at least the next 2-3 years.
Out of the box, the performance should be similar to the best mid-range phones you can buy nowadays.

A couple years after the final major update. Assuming it gets Nougat then you've got some time.

Priv will be 2 years old before BlackBerry gets out Android "O".... so it could be a questionable update. Really don't know the "cost" of adding one extra device to an update. More in testing and certification than coding.

I think it will see O, assuming no real major change takes place.

Yeah, but even without updates, it's going to be a loooong time before Marshmallow goes away. I mean they just phased out Gingerbread.

I can almost assure you O isn't happening, because Qualcomm. And that includes the Nexus 5x.

They won't release drivers for the SoC.

Good 3-4 years. By then some apps may have a minimum requirement of Nougat but not many and your device will have crappy battery life because of battery degradation and your hardware will start falling apart, slider mechanism, pkb etc.

I'm a fairly positive guy so i would have to completely disagree with you. There is no reason to drop support for the Snapdragon 808. It's one of Qualcomm's "top performing" processors and there are only 3 that are "better" (820,821 & 835) obviously some 600 series are much better forming than some 800 series but I'm just talking about the 800 range.

According to pcadvisor, they share the same positivity as me

for example, the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P will be supported by Google until September 2017, which means they will get both Android Nougat and next year's Android O. The Nexus 9 and Nexus 6 will both be supported until October 2016, which should mean they get an update to Android Nougat but not Android O. Older Nexus devices will not be upgraded.
I'm not saying their word is final and that they can't be wrong, just showing that I'm not the only one who thinks the 808 will be able to run Android O.

Until you are bored of it. Phones nowadays have power to handle pretty much anything. Unless you need to have the latest and greatest all the time, or unless you are trying to render 3d with it, Priv can get things done for you for a long time.

Yes, because we totally got Nougat already since September 2016...

Thurber told heise.de that they will support every android phone 2 years after EOL. So as PRIVs EOL isn't announced they will support it at least until 2019 (we'll see if driver sec updates are made until then).

Perhaps CB can get a similar statement?
