Since my update to Marshmallow I now haven't got the option when holding down the on/off button, just switch off or restart. Any idea anyone, thanks.....

You just keep power pressed down for about 15-20 seconds and it'll reboot .

Same here, except mine says Power Off or Restart as the two options. Restart = reboot.

Restart is reboot. They just changed name on Marshmallow.. If you want to do equivalent of battery pull (hard reset) you have to hold power button down for 32 seconds then let go.

Hard rest = restore to factory defaults. So the 10 second hold is not a hard reset

Yes it is. You can also do a quick search as a hard reset means restore to factory defaults. I've been in IT for years now and this is the terminology that we always use.

What he said! No need to push any other buttom just keep the power button pressed for up to 2 seconds and it'll rebooth by itself like an old fashioned battery pull.

No. As somebody who's worked in IT for over 20 years. Hard reset does not mean the same as a factory reset. Hard reset simply means you physically removed power to force a reboot/reset when something hardware wise hung and software options fail to initiate the process. Not the same thing at all. Not by any means.

And as someone who has worked in embedded systems design for over 15 years, I consider a hard reset to be one in which the power supply is disconnected from the CPU, etc. Which is what the 10-second press is.. it disengages the power supply. This is in contrast to a soft-reset, which is when you yank on an interrupt line or similar. On a CPU pinout you will find signals for /HRESET and /SRESET typically.

What you're describing, I would consider a factory reset.

Now to be fair, the question in this thread was about how to reboot, and the 10-second press will accomplish that.

No sure what part of IT you are in. But as someone who worked in IT for over 20 years, my understanding of hard reset is temporary disconnect the power source....verus then soft reset where you will do it from the SW side. Example will be the Physical reset button on a PC verus then doing reboot/reset using the OS.

If you don't mind my asking.... Then what is the 32 second Power Button press? It, too, is NOT a factory reset.

Well l guess the IT industry doesn't have a standard when it comes to defining hard/soft reset. My experience was in PC, Networking and specifically Mobile and Wireless Telecomms. So my experience in mobile devices is talking here.

Sometimes your phone just needs to belch and loosen the belt to feel all better, no different than we do when we eat to much like at Thanksgiving, Yum Yum dressing, cranberries, turkey, gravy white trash green beans, sweet potatoes. Is it Thanksgiving yet?

Can somebody clarify this for me? The official "support" page linked from BlackBerry says that the 32 second reboot is equivalent to a battery pull. Others say it's equivalent to restoring factory settings.

I have updated my Priv since I got it, and loaded quite a few apps. A "factory reset" implies to me, that I would lose all that, restoring it to original "out of the box" status.

Will I lose all my customization if I do a 32 second reboot?
