    Hello,

How should I back my priv up?

Ideally I'd like to back up to a computer rather than cloud.

    Plus device settings, ideally.

Basically everything that BlackBerry Link did when the Passport was plugged into it.

Nothing like link! You can backup contacts, sms, call logs and apps via an app

That's one of the advantages and also disadvantages of Android. You can usually find an app for everything, but you have to pick and choose between a lot of options. When I've been looking for things like notification managers, file managers, backup managers and other stuff I've had to do a little bit of research and experimentation to find stuff I like.

Same. You should see my wish list inside the Play store of apps I want to compare

Samsung has a desktop client but blackberry android doesn't. You have to rely on all the crap apps out there

The default and easiest way is the cloud...for example, your contacts are through your Google account (as well as your device settings if it's checked in your Settings --> Backup and restore menu), your email is through Gmail, your app data is (if the developer is a good developer) through the cloud, etc. Media such as images/videos/documents, just transfer to a PC if you want to locally back up? Text message = "SMS Backup & Restore" by developer Carbonite. REALLY nice app; been using it since 2012.

It is interesting how the Priv's marketing tag is privacy but there is no option to backup locally.

I personally had no problems with link. With my Q10, Z10, Z30 and passport.

At least I had the option to fully backup and restore.

    Now what?

    same.

when i switched from HTC ONE to PRIV i thought from what i had read that google would back me up. it didn't. i tried an app called HELIUM and it didn't work either. in the end surprisingly blackberry content transfer got a lot of my info from one phone to the next. this is where i envy iphone users. my friends that have lost their phones simply walk into a store buy a new one and are up and running instantly (via the cloud i presume).

not free and did not work for me. i could have been using it incorrectly. but when i wrote to the developer seeking assistance, i was referred to a two year old support FAQ.

Did you run it through the agent like it described? Priv cannot be rooted so it needs ADB.
