I need to encrypt my SD card to protect my information. Is this not what blackberry is about? How could they sell me a phone for approx. $700 that could not do that from the very beginning? Samsung s7 which is android can do it.

The SD card can be encrypted if it is formatted as extended device memory. Otherwise, no. This is a function of MM, not BlackBerry.
