The lens and sensor is meant to be good but everyone knows BlackBerry is horrible at implementing camera software into the operating system.

Has the camera quality improved? I saw the pictures in the reviews last month and the Priv should be producing much better photos I think. Hoping the software update fixed that.

Yeah, been wondering about this too. Supposedly the cam shoots better indoors and in low light conditions now.
They also said, you can now take photos faster. This is of greatest importance for me as my cat sometimes walks into the telly room and starts showing rad ninja moves out of the blue.

I don't own a Priv. However, I've played with it for a while in the AT&T store. It takes decent pictures.

Still would like to hear more on the subject from actual Priv owners.

I received a Priv from Amazon on 11/17 and was going back and forth on keeping as the hardware was solid, but the front camera had green tint and green lines through it as the phone was used or charging (basically the warmer the device got, the more green the camera to the point of being almost unusable... and it is winter).

Anyway, after well over a week of being aware of this, I finally decided I paid a lot of money to not have a usable front camera. Started the return process and ordered a new device from shopblackberry on Monday (they shipped same day and was at local FedEx store by Wednesday) only for BlackBerry to release a software update Tuesday that completely fixed this.

Front camera is now what I expected. I didn't think that a software update would help as I figured it was the heat on the front camera lens doing this and only a few actually reported having this. If more said they had this issue, I would have waited longer for a possible fix as Amazon gives until the end of January to return during the holidays.

Ended up switching devices when not needed. Wish more people left feedback in the thread on the green front camera. Now I'm rocking the shopblackberry Priv. All is well with the camera now so that update definitely addressed at least the front camera!

Well, make the world a better place, start with yourself.
I don't see you mentioning in any thread that the green cam tint bug is supposedly fixed now with the latest update and that people should download the latest software before sending back their Priv....

    Good lawd!
That's some detective work there lol.

Back on topic, I'm sure that BlackBerry will get it to where it should be with updates.
The camera hardware is supposed to be good (according to one of the Berryflow podcasts a while back).
The issue with the heat seems interesting.

I won't own an Android device as a smartphone, but am curious to see what others here are experiencing with their device.

I have the PRIV with the new update, it's better an improvement over when the first released.

There's not as much delay now when pressing the button, does focus faster now. Still needs some work but a big improvement.
Wish it had slow motion, maybe in a future update?

Putting an 18mp camera on a phone doesn't mean it's gonna take really good pictures if the software can support it.

Think you completely missed my point. I held onto a device that was $750 with a green front camera that I thought was hardware related since heat made it worse.

I don't have time to go back and re-read my original thread (working) asking for advice on what to do, but after about 2 weeks I decided $750 was too much to not have a front camera.

My point was that PRIOR to the update not many at all reported this as an issue except a select few that ended up getting bashed (see my original thread where I think the first reply I received was that I shouldn't have posted about it). If more reported this or even tested the front camera while the device was warm and I was aware this was widespread I likely would have held off on the return.

Anyway, it was just ironic to me that I waited a few weeks contemplating every day if I should order my own Priv from shopblackberry and return the Amazon one and when I finally decided to return and order, the software was fixed resulting in a usable front camera.

Post-update the issues that some of us reported regarding the camera were already discussed as being fixed here so I did not see the need to create a new thread after exchanging devices, updating software, etc. As you can surely look up, it is well reported that the software update fixed the front camera.

Anyway, this thread specifically questioned the camera quality post-update so, in my opinion, I did in fact report my findings here. That's my contribution to the community when asked about it because I surely was not going to start another thread on the green front camera :-)
